XTR thumbshifters? In your dreams...club

XTR never offered thumbshifters. email grant at rivendell.com, he's got a lead on a guy who makes custom bar mounts for the shift mechanisms from shimano bar-con shifters, turning them into index thumbies, 7 8 or 9 sp. depending on which mechanisms you install.

It's a remote bar end shifter, and it didnt act alone. It required a special rapid fire shifter in its normal place linked with cables to work. Typical Shimano over-engineering. Heavy, complicated... Who asked for this?

I have 2 sets of thumbshifters still. Both are XT 7 speeds . The old 7 speed models acutally have 8 clicks so they will shift an 8 speed setup. The one set is fairly used, the other is barely used.

Let me know if your interested. I have no idea what there worth.

For the front, just keep looking and you'll find some XC-pro Suntour, Shimano DX, or Shimano XT friction left shifter, the best. I use a Dura-Ace 9 speed (yes, indexed) Bar-Con thumbshifter (the triathlete type) on the right, it's 100% compatible with XTR/XT/LX rear 9 speed, however it won't mount on your bar, which I found a workaround using 2 cut down bar ends, mounted on the inside of the grip.. slide the shifter inside one bar-end, then mount that bar-end on the other cut down bar-end, which is attached to your bar (also had to use a titec ti flat-bar to accomplish the positioning).. so it sits exactly where it should.. takes some tweaking. Email me if you're intereted in setting this up, I'll send pics.

I want to see your pics of your bar-end clamped Dura-Ace shifters. I'm interested in doing something similar.

Thanks!
