Ellsworth?Adam

My LBS. just started carrying the Line of Ellsworth bikes. Seeing as my present bike will be sold at the end of the season, I am in the market for a new XC race bike. So I checked out the Ellsworth Sub 22 and wnated to know if anyone had any infomation on this bike. I want a light XC racing hardtail and something that comes built with full XTR. I don't have the money to build up a bike with full XTR so I need something that already comes built with it. Is the ellsworth a good race bike even thought it doesn't come with full XTR? Does any one have any good recommendations? My ultimate bike would be something that comes built with full XTR, Sid Race, and Mavic Crossmax wheel set. Any ideas?

how about a Giant SE1 I think it is, one of the Giant hardtails has the exact spec you list. Sid sl, crossmax, xtr etc. Or you could splurge and go with the Trek STP 400. Maybe a jamis dragon <-steel :) That's all that comes to mind.

Thanks, I actually never considered the Giant but now I will. I've thought about the Jamis and am not so sure about going steel as I ride some pretty wet condiitons. Not really a big fan of Trek.

Thanks for the ideas!

Buy the Dragon....AlphaDog

Adam,

Buy the Dragon, Period!

I've had mine about 8 months now and completely love it. I'm not sure why you care about wet rides and a steel bike as there are drain holes in all of the main tubes. I just use Frame Saver every 6 months and if I ride a really wet ride I pull the seat post out and turn the bike upside down.

The Dragon has a great ride position and the feel of the steel is amazing. Bumps and roots are thuds instead of pings to your body. The climbing is also much better than aluminum. The rear triangle gives just slightly which really helps on rooty climbs.

I have been mountain biking for over 12 years and the Dragon is by far the nicest riding bike I have ever owned. Test ride one.

One more thing. Why do you care so much about XTR? I like the shifters and deraillers, but the rest of the stuff is really not that great. My Race Face crank seems much nicer as well as My Avid brakes too. The XTR chain isn't that great either, the SRAM seems much more reliable.

Good luck.
