Need Tires. Best all aroundwhiskeyjacks63

I was wondering which tires to replace my aging jones xc's. I like to get the fire xc's but worried about slow rolling resistance. I ride most trails with roots and rocks, but to get to trails ride quite a bit on pavement. Any suggestions for decent wearing, fairly aggresive and not too slow rolling tires. I know I'm asking alot but opinions welcome.

if you get an aggressive knob tire, you will probably have higher rolling resistance.

if you ride a lot of pavement, the tire will probably wear more rapidly.

what to do?

you might consider something like the python or perhaps the michelin comp-s light. these still roll fast, but have some knobs to give some traction. (actually, the python relies more on surface area).

these tires take some time to find the optimal pressure and handling characteristics. they tend to grip better at very low pressures--around 30psi for me.

good luck,
Bob

to help battle the rolling resistance use a Fire XC on the front for cornering grip/steering and get a Trailblaster for the rear. The trailblaster has low rolling resistance, but is still able to climb like mad. It is the best combo XC tire setup I've ever used. For info purposes I live in So.Cal.

Try WTB...Ken2

Try WTB MutanoRaptors. They come in 2.24 and 2.4 but the 2.4 is actually lighter. I use the 2.4 on the front and 2.24 rear. They have a knob section in the center that rolls very smoothly and quietly on pavement yet the tires are aggressive. See the reviews on this site.
