How can I fix this, new cassette time??

I took my cassette off and at the back, there were three rivets, which were threaded at the ends. Using a pair of pliers, I was able to tighten them up no problem. I should say, though, that my other bike's cassette didn't have this threaded-rivet system. You'll have to check yours out. |
|  the real fix | club Jul 13, 2002 3:21 PM | | those 3 little rivets, or bolts, depending on the cassette, are just for the convenience of the trained assembly line monkeys, so they can install the cassette as one piece, instead of as individual cogs. Feel free to remove those rivets, they do nothing. What you need is a thin spacer, as your cassette cluster isn't quite as thick as the freehub body. If it's really really loose, you could add a spacer behind the large cog. More likely, that's too much, what you need is the special thin flanged spacer that goes behind the Hyperglide lockring. Some Hyperglide clusters also used another, different, thin flanged spacer that went between the 1st and 2nd cogs. If that's missing, you tell because the space between the first and second cogs will be smaller than the subsequent cog spacing. Ask your LBS about the spacer. |

First just try tightening up the lockring. If you don't know how to do this just take your rear wheel to your favorite LBS and ask them about the play. |
