|   Yakima or Thule storage box? | Geo
Jul 14, 2002 7:50 PM | | Curious what my fellow MTBRers think about the Thule or Yakima roof mounted storage boxes. Any to steer clear from? Recommendations? Looking for a good sized box to hold gear for myself and up to 3 other people for race weekends! Thanks!

They are usually less expensive for a given size and are at least as good (better in my opinion). The latch/lock mechanism is better. If you can afford one of the Evolution series, those are the best ones. They have the new snap-on attachment clamps that are far superior to anything else on the market. How big? Just depends on how much gear you haul, how much room you already have in the vehicle, and your budget. If you're camping at the races with the 3 other people and therefore taking all of that stuff too, then go for something big like the Evolution 1800 (18cu ft), or the Mountaineer (17cu ft).
