| Where to ride in Northern Cali? | PDIRT Aug 6, 2002 7:44 PM | | Going to Northern Ca for a few days, staying in Trinidad ( Near Eureka ,I beleive...) Where to ride? Trails suggestions...
Thanks all! |
| Pretty remote area last time I was there | Retro Aug 7, 2002 3:38 PM | | Haven't been there in several years (I'm going back in October), but Trinidad is a little town, I think only about 450 people. It's close to some wonderful country, though, with state parks and nat'l forest all over. Last time I was there, most of it was open to riding.
No bike shops in Trinidad that I know of (may be now, but not five years ago), but Arcata is a college town and should have some, and Eureka does for sure. I'd ask there for trails and maps. |
| aaaahh. . . pretty place. | sean Aug 7, 2002 5:55 PM | | Try the Arcata Community Forest, it's located right
behind Humboldt State University. Mix of fire roads
and single track- some off limits to bikes. Runs through
lush redwood forest. Watch out for the disc golfers.
There are a couple bike shops in ARcata (closer to Trinidad than
Eureka) that can help you out, too.
Other than this, mos of the land up there is private timberland
with an extensive network of roads, trails, etc. that are on private
land.
Also try the STATE Park (near Fern Canyon area) for rides
north of Trinidad. |

Its about 10 or 15 miles north of Trinidad. 19 easy miles round trip, 6 miles paved and the rest is a mix of single track and dirt road. Check the trail review section of this site for more info. Beautiful country. Do it counter clockwise or you will be riding up the best part.
