| suggestions for rental shops in/on Hawaii (big island) | wulf Aug 7, 2002 8:52 PM | | I'm headed to Hawaii in two weeks, and am wondering if anyone has experience renting bikes on the big island. Was recently up in Banff and had to rent crap, after having high expectations from a previous trip to the Hood River area in Oregon (they had SC ultralights...).
Any suggestions are much appreciated. Also, if anyone has trail recommendations, I would take them as well (more XC than downhill, if possible).
Thanks,

I stayed in Kona and took a cab there to rent the bike, then rode back to the hotel with it. I never found any good trails, though. I'm sure there are some....

| Are you on Kona side? | The Don Aug 8, 2002 12:22 PM | | If you're on Kona side, you could talk to someone at Hawaiian Pedals in Kona-Kailua (they call Kona both/either name there)about trails. They don't have much to rent, but one of the guys there is writing a book on the trails. There's another shop just across from the supermarket shopping center around the corner (in a smaller shopping center) that rents Fuels, etc. & has some decent schwag. I forget the name of it, but it's in Kona-Kailua. You may want to run a Yellow pages search & call around.
BTW: When you're done riding, go to Kona Inn at sunset & order a Mai Tai from the bartender, Bert. |
