| 2003 bikes! | sean Aug 7, 2002 8:56 PM | | I got back into riding about two years ago by buying a discounted 2000 Speshy Rockhopper and have enjoyed it very much. After bashing it about a bit, I am now in the market for a new (and better) ride.
At my LBS today, I saw a 2003 Giant Rainier. Why doesn't the GIANT website show their 2003 bikes? Is this the time when the 2003 bikes are coming out? When will I start to see hugely discounted 2002 bikes? I never pay full price for anything. |
| You'll probably see the deeper discounts... | Squash Aug 8, 2002 2:40 AM | | Starting next month. But you won't see the really big drops util all of the 03 models are out. This should be around the end of October begining of November. Manufacturers produce their bikes in production runs. Most are just not big enough to have all models in production at the same time and most have been making runs on 03 models and building stock since June if not earler. It's normal to see some 03 models starting to filter onto the showroom floor about now. All you can do is watch the LBS and see when their prices start to drop. But don't wait too long, as the season draws to a close the the more popular sizes get tougher to find. That's the problem with the "I never pay full price for anything" mind set. If you wait for the huge price cuts, quite often you won't be able to find the size frame you need.

| PS...website update is not... | Squash Aug 8, 2002 2:47 AM | | a real high priority for most bike manufacturers at this time of year. They are busy getting the 03 models out, preparing for the big annual industry wide bike show in Vegas, etc. You'll start seeing website updates in the next couple of months or so.

| Sean, sean,sean... | hmmm Aug 8, 2002 3:29 PM | | VERY interesting choice of bike for you to want to find a 2002 discount on. The situation is very bleak regarding your quest. Of all the bikes in the Giant Canon, the Rainier was totally sold out before any other models. (a few NRS2 sizes are exceptions). You WILL NOT find a discounted 02', unless the dealer has some serious financial troubles. The 03's are such an incredible value for the money, at full price, it is seriously like getting 20% off of just about any other brand. (and no, I don't work for Giant). PS...do you support the bike biz, and do you offer a discount for everything that you do professionally? Just curious, good luck on a bike buy, out |
| hmmm, hmmm, hmmm... | sean Aug 8, 2002 8:28 PM | | Yeah, I hear the Giants are popular these days.
They had the '03 model for $599.
I actually WOULD pay full price for that. |
| hmmm, hmmm, hmmm... | senojnw Aug 17, 2002 12:24 AM | | I have'nt seen the 2003 model - but am thinking of buying one coz I can't get hold of any 2002 models - one shop is offering to put the 2002 forks on for the same price...
Can you give us a run down on what the 2003 looks like? Better / worse?? |
