| wireless Topeak Panoram 18" max distance? | MN Rider Aug 8, 2002 4:19 AM | | For the Panoram (wireless), Topeak's web site says the max. distance from the transmitter to computer is 18". That seems short for a tall bike... anybody have any expereince to offer on this?
The advice I picked up from a previous post has got me thinking to do a brake rotor mount of the magnet (since I have a C-dale Lefty shock)... that will put the transmitter about as far away from the computer as possible and I think I'll be pushing the 18" limit.
Thanks for all your guidance. |
| Wireless distance of 18" is from..... | timbo Aug 8, 2002 10:35 AM | | .... the "normal" recommended position of mid way up your shock to the handlebars, assuming you have the magnet mounted in your spokes somewhere, not in the disc rotor. This 18" is a little more than normal on a standard bike with this standard position for mounting the hardware. However, since you want to mount it to the bottom of the fork and "glue...". (ugh!!) the magnet to the rotor, the distance you should be concerned about is from the end of your shock to the handlebars. Also of concern is the fact that since it is a lefty, the transmitter will be mounted outboard of the shock (to the left and front) and you will not only have a longer distance, but also, no direct line of sight from the transmitter to the computer, unless you mount your computer on the left side of the handle bars.
In case you didn't recognize my name, I was the one who said to lengthen the wire and mount it on the back left chain-stay. When I bought my Panoram, I went to the wired version to avoid all of this. As I said in your previous post, it took all of ten minutes to solder in a new wire..... but hey, we don't want to go there all over again...!!?? |
