| Anyone with warranty experience from Trek? | Geo Aug 8, 2002 9:35 AM | | I just took my '01 Fuel 90 in today, he cracked on the weld where the top tube and seattube meat, on the top weld. Needless to say, I am devestated -- but hopeful that Trek can resolve the problem.
So, I am just curious of what other's experiences with Trek's warranty service are like. What kind of time frame am I looking at to get a new frame? They told me about 2 weeks, so I am hopeful that this is about it.
I'll miss my baby, perhaps I shouldn't get so attached to my next frame...

| Got a free replacement 830 frame many years ago. | Scott in Jersey Aug 8, 2002 10:55 AM | | Dropped off a big curb in a parking lot in college & broke the rear stay on asteal frame which at the time was disontinued (late 80s), Trek gave a me a new Singletrack as a replacement. I was happy with the experience back in 1992. Good luck. |
| No Troubles at all! | Geo Aug 9, 2002 8:56 AM | | I only ran the stock configuration for last year, but in that time I never had any of the chainsuck and chaindropping problems that others seemed to have. Perhaps i was just lucky. I had RF Cranks on there this season, and I like them a lot better. :D |
| My experience | fat&slow Aug 8, 2002 11:49 AM | | I experienced the same frame failure you did, and when you get your new frame you will notice that Trek has redesigned that part of the frame to counter the problem. I took my bike in and was told 3 to 4 weeks and got it back in about 2 1/2. (This was early in June) The only thing I was bummed about is that they only replaced the front triangle. The rear triangle of my '01 Fuel 90 is very badly scratched from the terrible chain suck problems I had initially. I was hoping to get a complete new frame, but I guess I can't complain too much. By the way, since they no longer have the Black '01 frame they painted an '02 frame with the old paint. This is why they couldn't turn it around in a week. If you are lucky they will paint you up an '03 frame and you will get that minimal weight savings that the ZX9000 alloy offers.
Since purchasing my Fuel, I have had the Cranks, Cassette, Chain, and front triangle of the frame replaced under warranty. The drivetrain components we actually all replaced with Shimano. I have appreciated the service, but would have appreciated just getting a trouble free bike in the first place more. |
| I've broken my 8500 twice, and they replaced it... | Biker4 Aug 8, 2002 6:26 PM | | I've broken my 8500 twice, and they replaced it... Each time, it took 3-4 weeks. The last time, it was my fault, I bent the droupout in a crash, but they replaced it anyway...

| Bad service | Rich M Aug 8, 2002 8:25 PM | | I guess that I am the odd man out. I had a bad rim on a Trek and Trek would do nothing about it even though the LBS told me that it was defective. For that reason, I have not purchased another Trek. I have had great service from Cannondale. |
| Not sure about the Fuel, but as a previous Y-Bike owner: | ET_SoCal Aug 9, 2002 6:18 AM | | Well, I cracked my '97 Y11, Trek warranty replaced the front with a
'98 Y50, cracked that one soon after, Trek warranty replaced again
w/another Y50, cracked this one too! (all in same place: rear shock
mount) Now some were saying it might of been only the paint or
something minor in the coating, but why did Trek warranty/replace
then?
I asked Trek to verify if it was in fact cracked in the carbon
or just something superficial, but they didn't respond, just send
another frame.
The last one sent was the last year model of the Y-bikes (YSL300) complete with rear AL triangle, xtra bushings & bolts.
Now I gotta say Trek did a good job of supporting the "Lifetime
warranty" but having to remove all the components, and reinstall,
re-adjust, loss of riding time, cost of shipping the frame to Trek...
Now I've purchased a different manfacture (frame) & moved all my
components over. |
| Thanks for the into - I appreciate it. | Geo Aug 9, 2002 9:00 AM | | Thanks for the info and stories, I am not quite so scared as to what might happen now.
I'll be sure to post what happens with the warranty situation on my Fuel, if they give me an '02 or '03 model, full frame or just front triangle, and if they were able to get it in my preferred color of black :D
Thanks again!

| Thanks for the into - I appreciate it. | Jim S Aug 12, 2002 5:11 PM | | My fuel cracked in the same place as yours. When I was taking it apart I noticed it was also cracked on the rear triangle. I have been able to use my brothers sugar so I havn't missed any of them WORS races but I sure do hope to get the frame soon. My frame was an xl. What size was yours? The thing that bums me out is I had a real cool custom paint job and now its back to the decals. |
