guys i need some help here, i cant seem to sell my bike. dont get mad at me for putting this here, i already posted an ad in the classifieds and at ebay. hell i even went to pinkbike.com and nsmb.com. where else can you sell your bike. i have a 2001 schwinn homegrown pro frame with a marzocchi z3 bam 80 fork. all xt/xtr drivetrain, nice wheels not much use, only a few scratches. so whats the deal, thanks.
Maybe you're asking more than it's worth? (nm)Yeti_Rider

You may have to lower price in order to move it.

Also, right now is a bad time to sell a used bike because so many bike shops are clearing out 2002 inventory to make room for the '03 bikes.

For example, I saw a Sugar that was $1300 and is now going for $950 on clearance.

It's hard for someone to justify buying used and for a little more they can get brand new...

Perhaps buyers are shying away from a used bike with ???questionable??? customer support (if any) anymore....dunno, just a thought...

The minute you roll that bad boy out of the shop, drop 40% off of what you paid. From there it depends on condition. A bike that is a year old with thrice weekly usage and the requisite crash scrapes, paint chips, chain suck marks etc will hold about 30% - 50% of its' value from purchase unless it is some rare or very high end ride.

A middle of the road ride that was mass produced really won't hold much value. I sold something similar with all xtr/thomson/king/easton upgrades and got 45% of orig purchase price before the upgrades.

The biggest rule of thumb is NEVER expect to get the money out of the bike that you put in. Never. Unless there is a sucker born yesterday with a penchant for cycling, it ain't going to happen.

They've all been a year old but brand new (if that makes sense), and I usually get about 35-40 percent off.
thanksbuck

...that Schwinn is out of business and many people would think twice before getting Schwinn. Think about parts... hard to find!!!

But I still like Schwinn !

Other than the frame, all the other parts are made by other companies so parts should be no issue.

i think most people saw the prices that schwinns were being blown out at just a couple months ago so most people probably wont pay more than that. I know i would only be willing to pay less than 1300 for a limited if was going to buy one because thats what i saw supergo running them for even though they are sweet 2500 dollar bikes.
