| Methow Valley (WA) trail info? | GlowBoy Sep 3, 2002 3:39 PM | | Next week my wife and I plan to spend a few days in the Methow Valley, and we're going to do as much mountain biking as I can talk her into. I haven't ridden there since 1995, but I've done Buck Mountain, Tiffany Mountain, Cedar Creek, Goat Peak and parts of the Sun Mountain trail system. I've also hiked and skiied Cutthroat Pass but didn't know it was open to bikes - I'm definitely going to have to ride that one next week!
The guidebook I have is very old - it's only 15-20 pages, and was published by the Okanogan National Forest in about 1990. But I have been able to find much more current trail info at mvsta.com and the ONF website, and I have most of the Green Trails maps of the area ... so I think I can get along without buying a new guidebook (which I probably can't get in Portland anyway).
Questions:
- Are there any "must-do" rides of moderate difficulty (less than, say, 2000' of climbing) that I haven't done already?
- On the rides I've done before, have there been any major trail revisions I should know about?
- It looks like most of the MVSTA trails operate on a donation basis, but does Sun Mountain charge non-guests for the use of their trails?
- I don't see Goat Peak or Cedar Creek on the MVSTA website's map. It looks from the ONF site like they may still be open to bikes, but I want to make sure that info isn't outdated - does anyone know for sure?
- What's the big picture in the Methow? I remember being amazed back in the early 90s by how many of the trails there were legal for bikes. Still true?
Thanks in advance for any answers you might have.
