| Vintage Bikes | k2biker Sep 4, 2002 5:48 AM | | Does anyone have a vintage or classic bike? I got my first one this weekend that has been sitting in a barn in Indiana. It's an old Western Flyer -- nothing too fancy but it's definitely cool. My girlfriend started looking at cruisers with me and she liked them so when I saw this, I had to have it to restore for her.
Some of the features include EARLY grip shift (not the name brand) technology with (2) cables that control the rear 5-speed Shimano Lark VI derailleur. Oh and yes, it still works! Let's see what else...I forget the name of the saddle...fenders (a must on a classic)...26" wheels which should be helpful in finding new tires...mustache type bars...sidepull brakes...one piece cranks...it's a beaut!
My girl is excited about helping me restore it --- that rules! We saw this other Western Flyer that I hope I get for Christmas. It's a '57 / '58 deluxe model -- totally loaded with front and rear lights built into the fenders, basket, rear rack, and even a registration plate that the owner mounted on the head tube. In this particular town, there was a time when all bikes had to be registered. SO, this makes this bike even cooler! |
| Yep, '93 C-dale Super-V with the original..... | fz4vgq Sep 4, 2002 11:30 AM | | banana shaped formed and welded aluminum sheetmetal swingarm and all the original components, yeah I know it's really not a true "classic" but it was C-dales first exercise into a real full suspension bike. I'm 30 years old, everyonce in awhile i'll take that bike out to my favorite ride location and i'll get some comments from the youngsters asking what it is! kinda makes me feel good (kinda). |
