| Giant XTC NRS and Girvin carbon cross link fork? | fz4vgq Sep 4, 2002 5:48 AM | | I'm wondering if this fork is compatible with this frame? 1.I've heard that the Girvin/Proflex/K2 fork is shorter than most standard forks? (which I assume would throw off the geometry) 2.The Giant frame uses a 1 1/8th headtube I assume? 3.I'm not certain what size "steerer tube" the Crosslink fork is, anyone know? thanks, chad. |
| Why? | MRfire - 1 Sep 4, 2002 7:19 AM | | They're heavy and prone to breakage (the carbon will crack on any significant drop). I only say this because I had a K2 with that fork on it and it lasted about a year. Do yourself a favor and get a RS or Marz. I ride a NRS now with a Psylo SL - love it - and it has lockout for the climbs!

You metion the Girvin fork being shorter than others. Do you mean the axle to crown height? Measure it up and compare your figure to some of the more recent designs. Marzocchi lists axle to crown lengths on their website.
Good luck and post some pictures when you get it mounted. I'd like to see what that combo looks like. |

I used the '98 Noleen carbon model and it really is a nice, SHORT travel fork. The Girvin models are '97 and earlier, the Noleen models are better and have a much more linear travel path. That fork does have a short axel to crown, but the upper linkage puts the handlebars up higher than normal. You'll have to do a bit of experimenting to get the right stem/bar setup. the Crosslink is a zero maintenance fork, but it is getting old. Anymore I would say that unless there is a distinct advantage this fork gives you, strongly consider a more modern fork. |
