| Creaking from BB (I think ....) | kinger Oct 3, 2002 7:33 AM | | Well, I've put about 7 or 8 rides on my new Racer-x and absolutely love it. Unfortunately, this morning it started to develop a relatively loud creaking noise during pedal strokes under force. I assume this is coming from the BB but not completely sure. Question is, does that sound like something you'd hear from your BB or could it be something else? If it is the BB what can I do about it? Do I need to pull it, re-lube and reinstall? FYI, it's an XTR BB with XTR cranks. |
| re: Creaking from BB (I think ....) | sebh Oct 3, 2002 7:43 AM | | try cleaning the bb threads and apply some anti-seize on the threads and reinstall. if that doesn't work try using teflon tape on the bb cups. i got rid of my creaking bb by doing this. good luck man! |
| if that doesn't work | EricTheRed Oct 3, 2002 8:05 AM | | check out the other point on your bike where creaking could happen, seatpost/seat (happend to me), seatpost/frame(also happened to me), pedal/crank. -e |

The BB is tight, chainring bolts are tight, splines are greased, loc tite on the bolt threads, everything is tight--I even installed new pedals thinking this might be the cause. Still it sounds like a creaky square taper set up. Be sure to post if you find a solutions. |

Good Luck! |
