Proper way to inflate a presta tube-i'm an idiot, humour meGirchyGirchy

Uh, yeah, so I got my new presta tubes and pump in. I go to fill the tubes, nothing goes in. I figure out I have to loosen that tiny little nut thing, so the valve isn't fully closed, so air goes in.

Allright. How far do I need to loosen that little nut? Also, how far do I jam my Silca pump's chuck onto the valve stem of the tube?

When I took the pump chuck off of the valve (which was a two handed effort), it seemed like more air leaked out than it should have.

Sorry to bother, but am I doing this all wrong? I feel like a complete moron.

Check the adapter....timbo

Assuming that you are using an adapter on the end of the Presta valve so that the normal chuck on the pump will go on properly, check that when you screwed the Presta valve adapter on, that it didn't turn the "little nut thing" on the top of the Presta valve down with it. When you have the adapter on, you should be able to look down in the top of the adapter, and the "little nut thing" (yeah, I don't know what you call it either!!??) is still right near the top. This is so that when you press on the chuck and tighten the chuck, that the small metal part in the chuck will press down on that to open the valve and allow the air in.
I had an adapter a while back that was narrow inside, and when I put it on the Presta, the "LNT" would get screwed down and was too far down for the metal piece on the chuck to press and allow air to go in.....
Long reply for a simple problem.... check it out.... hope it helps!!!
I don't have an adapterGirchyGirchy

My Silca has the dual Schrader/presta chuck on it, so it's for a presta...your post made sense, if I had an adapter...thanks anyway!

lol "LNT"
