| My lights have a dark spot | telinsa Nov 6, 2002 10:35 PM | | I'm looking at the light beam of my halogen light set on the wall. I notice a barely perceptible set of dark spots in the center of the beam. Then I look at the light unit itself and notice there is a cutout in the reflector where the bulb and wire attachments must come through. So I figure the dark spots in the beam pattern must be from the discontinuous reflector in this part of the unit. Analogous to the optic disc in the eyeball. Would you say this is a fair assessment? |
| No.... | Metroid Nov 7, 2002 6:18 AM | | All reflector bulbs have a hole in the back, but not all have dark spots. My Jet light is very concentrated bright light in the center of the beam. The hole doesn't matter because the reflector can direct light anywhere in the beam width. Your bulb's reflector coating is probably getting old or not very well made in the first place. If it's a real problem on the trail, try replacing the bulb. |

That is acheived by the precise positioning of the lamp relative to the reflector. On some lights that may be adjustable, but on most it's not(set at the factory when the light bulb was made). So if it is adjustable, try adjusting it. If it's not adjustable, your only option is to replace the bulb/reflector assembly with hopefully a better one. |
