XT v. LX Cranks(2 posts)

XT v. LX CranksGriff
Nov 7, 2002 10:30 AM
What's the difference between 2002 or 2003 XT and LX cranksets? The only differences I can tell is that XT is slightly lighter (9g), has the one-key release, stainless chainring bolts, and has an aluminum rather than steel small ring.

It seems that, basically, they are the same set of cranks.

Alright here's what I recently had to deal with.

You're right about the differences between the two cranksets for '02 models. For '03 the LX cranks must be paired up with a certain bottom bracket which is much lower quality than the options that you have for the '02 LX cranks. So if you're looking for LX which i'd suggest (best bang for buck) go '02. If you can't find them then you might have to go for '02 or '03 XT cranks. I managed to get my hands on a '02 XT crankset and it worked just great.

Good luck, hope this helped some
