Big trouble? Spend more money?CirrusSR22

Hey folks, I'm in a bit of a mess I believe. Can you help? I think my 2 month old fork will now be useless!!

My old frame broke, and I'm getting a new one under warranty. The old head tube is 145mm, the new one is 165mm.(20mm difference) My old headset had 15mm of spacers in it, if I take those out on the new setup, that leaves my steerer tube 5mm short!

The old headset is a crappy Dia-Compe SA Aheadset (1 1/8" Threadless), Alloy and I believe the stack height is 27.5mm, that means I will have to find a headset with a stack height of about 22.5mm, OR find a new stem with a shorter steerer tube clamp.

OR spend big cash on a new fork and cut the new tube 5mm longer.

What do you think I can do?? I guess the Cane Creek "IS" headsets require a special frame

Thanks in advance everybody!!

As long as the steerer tube goes through the stem and is above the highest steeer clamp bolt (assuming you have two bolts) on the stem you should be fine. If not, look for a stem with a lower stack height. Unless you have a really low stack height, finding 5mm of extra room should not be tough.

you sure that your new headtube length is 165mm? that sounds awfully tall to me. that's 16.5 cm almost 6.5 in long!!! must be a big bike.

Yeah 165mm (21.5" Trek ZR9000 8000/8500), old one was 145mm (21" Trek Alpha SL 8000) So says Trek.

My stem is an Icon Durante and the stack height is 39.5mm, supposedly "low-profile" already.
