Time ATAC (alum): inconsistant release !?(4 posts)

Time ATAC (alum): inconsistant release !?PiroChu

My old Time ATAC (alum) padals strated to give me some inconsistant releases, and they continue to get worse ever so slightly, it seems. Basically, my right pedal releases easier and my left pedal is harder to release.

While on some sketchy downhill, my right would pop out. So, I put the cleats on for 17-degree release to present this, and the right stays in. But, while in the parking lot, my left won't release (then down I go), as a result. I don't want to put the cleats back for 13-degree release, or my right will pop out too easily.
Seems as though I need to buy 2 pair of cleats and only use one piece from each pair, like 17-degree right + 13-degree left!? I even replaced my cleats earlier this summer, but that didn't change anything. So, maybe it's the pedals?

FYI, I've been using this pair since '99 in the dry condition here (some occasional rock-banging, but no wet/mud), and it's never been serviced yet. (I heard 'no service necessary' for Time?)

Maybe time for a new pair...? What do you guys think?

They served me well, so I don't mind retiring them that much, especially when I can get a new pair of Carbon for $69.99 from Performance right now...

I have a pair of the ATAC carbons from 96 and they still work great. The metal springs have developed serious flat spots but they still release just fine. Make sure the sole of your shoe isn't inhibiting the release (doubtful, but possible). Good Luck and maybe it is just time to invest in another pair (although my friends haven't had any problems with their Alums).
I replaced my cleats...EricTheRed

I just replaced my cleat and what a big difference, now my clipping out is what it used to be no need for a new pedal(for me at least)
I've been using the same pedals and cleats since early '00 or fall of '99, mostly dry riding with some walking around on rocks. What you could do is take the 17deg side and file it down till it ist about 15deg or so and see how that works and then maybe file it down some more if needed.

Is it possible that the springs go bad?PiroChu

Is it possible that the springs go bad?
One padel has its springs kinda wiggly, and the other still tight...
