| Klein Adroit finally done... well, almost. | micdjunior Dec 13, 2002 3:23 PM | | Well everyone.. I've finally finished my "winter" project (a *little* early, too). Below is a pic of the finished product, but you can find a LOT more here: (including some of my other rides) http://community.webshots.com/user/yellowpearlz
Here's a list of parts I used to build it up:
-1997 NOS Klein Adroit fuselage, including integrated Klein Airheadset, MC3 stem and Manitou SX Carbon fork w/lok-out.
-Cane Creek Team Ti WAM wheelset
-NOS Coda Magic crankarms and BB w/Race Face rings
-Avid Arch Supreme (waiting on a rear) brakeset
-Avid Ultimate L levers
-XTR 9-speed drivetrain including:
>Shifter pods
>Ti cassette
>'03 rear derailleur
>Front derailleur
-Thomson seat post
-Selle Italia Pro-link saddle
-Egg Beater pedals
-Hutchinson Mosquito Gold tires
-Miscelaneous: Salsa skewers and Carbon Arc brake booster, PC-99 chain, Avid flack jacket brake/shifter cable housing set and Klein Instinct grips.
I'd like to hear any and all opinions/questions on the bike, as it's my first frame-up build. I haven't been able to ride it more than a few on-road miles, as it's winter here in WI. I can't wait to thrash it in the spring , though... =) BTW, I have not yet had a chance to weigh the bike, NOR did I weigh all of the parts individually. I don't have a digital scale, and don't really care. The bike is lighter than my Mantra... good enough. If anyone cares, I'm 20yo, 5'9" and 130#. Ride on! ~MDH |

| Sweet brake setup | uber-stupid Dec 14, 2002 12:46 AM | | Obviously not the only cool thing on there, but definately some sweet choices... are those arch supremes I see hiding behind all that CF? |
| Thanks, and yes, that's an Arch Supreme on the front.. I'm | micdjunior Dec 14, 2002 1:45 AM | | waiting on one for the back as well... we'll see if it works out. Thanks a lot for the compliments... I hope it rides like i want it to next spring when the trails open up again!

| I think I saw some on ebay... | uber-stupid Dec 14, 2002 10:15 AM | | one more thing... how well do the salsa Carbon fiber boosters work? My shimano fibers were kinda flexy... I'm hoping Salsa got it right. |
| Yeah, I'm doing the Ebay thing ;-) I haven't tried the Shimano | micdjunior Dec 14, 2002 12:11 PM | | boosters, but I wanted to go with the Salsa right away because i figured it *would* be better. It DID cut the amount of flex on my brake posts down 75%.. I can tell just by grabbing the lever and seeing how they don't bend out 1/8 inch anymore.

| well done, here is my old project and my new project | Hammer_FLMB Dec 13, 2002 4:10 PM | | Thanks for the post. Looks like you did a great job. It looks pretty sweet from the photos. It is always satisfying building up your own rig. It usually turns out to cost more, but you can spec' it with whatever you want right from the beginning. I've built a few so far. The last one I built was a 2002 San Andreas (in the photo) that I just sold a few weeks ago. I'm now going to strip down and rebuild a 2003 Cannondale Jekyll 500 (which comes with a Manitou Black fork). The 2003 Jekyll has 135mm of rear travel, which will work nicely with my 135mm Z-1 fork. I'm ordering the bike next week, but I've already picked up most of the new parts (and have some left over from the San Andreas).
I'm taking everything off the bike, except for the Cane Creek reducing headset and the rear Fox shock. Here is my list of new parts: Marzocchi Z.1 MCR, Hayes hydraulic brakes, Chris King Hubs laced to Rhynolite rims, Salsa seatpost QR and wheel QRs, Race Face Turbine LP ISIS crank, Race Face Signature FR ISIS BB, Hurricane H-45 Post, Selle Italia Flite Gel saddle, SRAM X.0 shifters, SRAM X.0 rear derailleur, SRAM PC-99 chain, XT cassette, XT front derailleur, Monkeylite riser bars, Race Face Deus stem, TIME ATAC-Z pedals and WTB Velociraptors. I'll probably put most of the original C-dale parts including the Manitou Black on my hardtail. I'll post a photo once I get the new frame built up. |
| Looks great... a 2002 and you're already switching bikes? | micdjunior Dec 14, 2002 12:19 PM | | hehe. I totally agree, building your own ride up from scratch is WAYYYY better than buying it from the LBS as a whole. I felt so great once I ran that last cable and dialed the derailleurs in.. woohoo! lol, have fun and post those pics,

| Awesome and unusual spec... | primetime Dec 13, 2002 5:05 PM | | Still wondering where you got the CODA Magic cranks from. Mixed with WAM Ti, Avid Ultimates, and Klein Adroit Fuselage... these were the highest end components available at one point. I'd bet this bike is not much more than 20 lbs. Very cool and even a little retro. Ride on. |

I bet it's fast though.
Have fun. |

| Looks Great. Do all Kleins have dropouts like that?... | mhmm Dec 14, 2002 5:10 AM | | I mean with the der. hanger in front of the axle. Just curious. |
| Yes, as far as I know they all were (and still are) like | micdjunior Dec 14, 2002 12:15 PM | | that. I think it's their way of stiffening the rear stays just a tad more, by having the axle a little closer to the center... and it shortens the hangar to avoid bending it.. as earlier Kleins didn't have replaceable hangars... Thanks!
