Mountain biking and lack of improvement coarses, tuition. (16 posts)
| Mountain biking and lack of improvement coarses, tuition. | snot.not.snot.not.snot.. Dec 15, 2002 4:17 AM | | I thought about this last night when i was flicking through my magazines. I am a skier also and in sking if there is an area that you want to improve you can go on a 7-11 week coarse. examples being freeride, moguls , carving.all in package including flights, accom, everthing. They can even get you up to instructer standerd. But there is nothing really like this in mountain-biking, is there? I would like to improve my freeride technique but it seems its only gonna happen by fallen on my head a couple more times first. It just seems to me that in such a big sport it is an area that is lacking. Even if there was one week courses where you get good instruction. (possible bussines move for an ex pro down-hiller?) It seems mountain biking is way behind skiing and snow-boarding when it comes to this. |
| Sometimes a person wonders..... | fred³ Dec 15, 2002 5:01 AM | | if the folks who use the computers deserve them. I say this because you obviously didn't bother to search for a school like you're looking for. I went to the search engine "Google" and typed in "mountain biking school". Here are a few of what I found: http://www.wcsmb.com/ http://www.ga-adventures.com/mb.html http://www.mtnbikeschool.com/
Now there are more than that, but I figure...hey! Why should I do all the work. :-) So there ya go.
A tip for you. If you don't spell the words correctly you may not get the search result you're looking for. Example: your spelling of "coarse" should be "course". "standerd" should be "standard". "instructer" should be "instructor", "bussines" should be "business". I don't mean it to sound critical, but sometimes proper spelling will get better results.
A bit of history: since mountain biking has only truly been around for about 20+ years and skiing has been around for a whole lot longer(before 1900) it hasn't had the time, or infux of money to develop into the large commercial success that skiing has. Give it another 40+ years and see what happens. |

Fred, did you mean "influx" of money, and not "infux" of money. Its a good thing you did not do a search for that on Google. |
| Actually, 'infux' is correct, in this case. | Finch Platte Dec 15, 2002 6:50 AM | | The way Fred3 used the bastardization of 'influx' is the new terminology on the street- when used with the word 'money' (or variations thereof), 'infux' takes on a new meaning, which I'm sure is
i very
clear.
Carry on, Fred.

Influx, influx, influx, influx, influx, influx, influx, influx, influx, influx, influx, influx, influx, influx, influx, influx, influx.
*whew* Done! |

| I did a google search for 'infux' and all I got was..... | Cook Dec 15, 2002 11:26 AM | | ....a whole lotta porn sites.
Umm....I gotta go now! Back in 5........

| yep courses are available | JimC. Dec 15, 2002 6:20 AM | | http://www.whistler-blackcomb.com/mountain/bike/tours.asp --> check under private lessons, and Wade Simmons has a clinic assuming his broken parts heal by next year.
I would think if you check in any DH area near you that entertains MTBing, you'll find some instruction on FR.
I learned a ton in a 3 hour clinic on how to huck, and now I fall with real class, instead of the old pedestrian, home-taught crash technique.
If that fails, ride with others that are better than you, and stick to their lines and mimic their moves.

Ken |
| zackly | JimC. Dec 15, 2002 11:27 AM | | about 3 weeks back, watched a DH racer on a rocky chute who smoothed it, and I'd ridden it before I think. I was able to cave in my full face via a fairly spectacular (I'm told) head-first human missile manoevere.
so Ken, unfortunately for me, the answer is yes. ^:o\

| re: Mountain biking and lack of improvement coarses, tuition. | Yeti_Rider Dec 15, 2002 7:59 AM | | While some courses exist to hone your MTB skills, the reality is that these courses will be few and far between since there just aren't as many mountian bikers as there are skiiers in the world. Plus, of those fewer mountain bikers, even fewer of them will be willing to pay for this course compared to the number of skiiers willing to pay for this instruction.
It more or less comes down to economics. Companies are in business to make money by providing that good or service. If they can't make money, they don't stay in business. |
| try a course in English language usage, grammar, and spelling | club Dec 15, 2002 8:35 AM | | You apparently need that more than a (sic) coarse in freeriding. |
| Shouldn't the 'sic' go <I>after</I> the 'coarse'? | Finch Platte Dec 15, 2002 9:37 AM | | Huh?

| If those were MTB'g mags you were flicking through.... | Cook Dec 15, 2002 11:30 AM | | ...flick your way to the last few pages and read the small print classifieds. Chances are you'll see a handful of mtb'g school ads there.
Cheers |
