| Is this a good workstand? | Rizzo Dec 15, 2002 8:47 AM | | I'm on a budget and saw the cheaper priced Performance Essential Stand. My first "real" bike, a Specialized Stumpy FSR is what will need to fit on this stand. Any comments on the stand/bike fit on the stand? Thanks |
| Got another $30? Ultimate EBS-10 best bang for the buck | 2melow Dec 15, 2002 10:01 AM | | http://www.supergo.com/itemdisplay.asp?compflag=1&parentid=19700&company=Ultimate&secid=24&subid=1531
Supergo is blowing out this older model, and 30 bucks more gets you into this Ultimate. Same 8-point contact soft grip clamp as the consumer and pro models, minus the height adjustment feature.
Also, very sturdy on uneven ground with the 3-point contact
The Performance is a fine basic stand, but remember it is like an ironing board and will run into stability issues unless you will be working only on flat surfaces like your garage or basement. |
| I prefer the Essential | Ratt Dec 15, 2002 11:29 AM | | I looked at the Ultimate EBS-10 at the Carlsad Supergo store, its the wobbliest clamp type stand i have ever seen. The frame tubes are very thin and flexy so the whole stand vibrates and shakes. The clamp is a screw type so that you have to hold the bike in place while you turn the screw, i bet that gets old quickly. I use the Essential stand and i think it works great if your bike fits it, which i think yours does but if you have a bottle cage on the bottom of the down tube you have to remove it to use this stand. I see on the Performance site they have refurb ones for $35, not a bad deal. If you factor in shipping costs or just driving to a Performance store its an even better deal. And while you are in the store don't look at a PCS 1, once you use one it'll be the only stand you want. I have a friend who has over $2k in tools, stands, true stands, car racks and the best bike in his quiver is a Lx/Xt I-Drive. I have less than $200 in that stuff and i ride an XTR Ellsworth i built from the frame up, I think its ridiculous to spend more money on the peripherals than you do on a bike. |
| Sounds good... | Rizzo Dec 16, 2002 10:29 AM | | I'll see if my wife, I mean "Santa", can hook me up with one of those refurbs from Performance. I live in Arkansas, so a visit to a Performance store is out my realm of possibilities. I'm at a sweet time right now...getting my first performance oriented bike soon(been on a old D-back Sorrento for 4 years) and I'll soon have a stand/tools to work with. No more wrestling with a POS bike on the floor or rigged up on my wall...YEAH! |
