Did I ruin my frame?(3 posts)

Did I ruin my frame?Rush

While riding today my back tire locked up, it appears that the bearings in the hub seized up. When this happened the axle spun and chewed a circle into the frame on the non-drive side. On the drive side the derailleur hanger saved things. So now I have a circle chewed into the frame, has anyone dealt with this before? I thought about filling it with JB weld then filing it smooth, or maybe it will not bother anything (I suppose it could help to keep the axle from moving) The Deore hub is brand new, probably less than 10 miles on it, I just had the LBS build me up a new rim. Any thoughts?
Thanks

I don't know what frame material you have but if it's aluminum, steel, or titanium then the dropout area probably has enough thickness and strength to withstand a filing or grinding to eliminate the damage.

A Dremel power tool with a sanding wheel might be the ticket. I can't imagine that dressing this up will hurt anything.
