New 2003 XTR: Unsupervised Fondling Report....sprockets
Dec 15, 2002 6:29 PM
Ok, this might be a stupid post, but I thought some people who didn't have access yet might want to hear some impressions. I know that I was really wondering about the stuff. Anyway, I got to touch them and all that, here it is: (when I say very, I mean very)

1. Disc brake caliper: very small and very light
2. Front disc hub w/rotor: very light and looks trick
3. Rear disc hub w/rotor: heavier than expected, looks trick
4. Shifter: functionally feels great, I hate pulling up
5. Bottom Bracket w/bearings outside of frame: very light, impressive
6. Crankset w/axle: very light, but axle/crank interface is not impressive.
7. Overall finish: IMHO, the old stuff looked better, this is pimpy-shiny: yuk.

I couldnt agree more I was checking it all out and touching them as well.If anyone is that curious go to your lbs and see for yourself. The shifters were way cool, but I dont like the fact that your stuck with those brakes. The shifters felt very precice with each click.I also thought the shiny finish on the cranks was kinda cheap looking. The old satin finish is a more classy look in my opinion.Everything felt very light especially the crankset with axle.
