Shoes with platforms???? (4 posts)
| Shoes with platforms???? | FoolCyclist Dec 16, 2002 12:13 AM | | What shoes are you guys using with platform pedals if you ride em? I'm gonna switch to platforms for my winter hardtail and was wondering what shoes perform well. I have been using some old Adidas Superstars because they have a pretty stiff sole, but I am tearing the begeezes out of the softer leather. Any suggestions? Should I just look at BMX shoes that have reinforced ollie areas?

| Anything flat, soft and flexible..... | Cook Dec 16, 2002 1:27 AM | | I use Globe, which is a skate shoe....not for any particular reason, but just because I got a great deal on them. I was looking for a shoe that had a flat and soft sole and that was flexible enough to 'wrap' around the pedal. I think any skate or BMX shoe would work just fine.
Here's a poor close-up of my Globes.....you can see a bit of the 'wrap' that I am talking about.
A good shoe doesn't mean much without a good flat pedal though. If you can, get a pair that has replaceable (and hence adjustable) pins and also sealed bearings, though these are more expensive. I have two pairs of flats....DMR V12's and a big-assed pair of FUNN's. I like the V12's for the winter because they are a more 'open' design and allow the snow to clear better.
