| What music (if any) do you listen to while cycling | MountainPro Jan 23, 2003 3:37 AM | | Picture it, you going on a 3 hour lonley ride, you get your MD player and headphones....but who is on the disk?

| Agreed | makalu Jan 23, 2003 7:33 AM | | The natural sounds of the forrest are perfect for me, and one of the reasons I go out in the first place |

| No music... | Nat Jan 23, 2003 7:41 AM | | Unless it's a tune already in my head, but no cd, no mp3. No no no no no. |
| Same here | Kapusta Jan 23, 2003 8:31 AM | | I never take music with me into the woods. I miss alot around me. Not that I see much of it anyway when I am riding, but it makes me that much more removed from wherever I am. Plus I really want to hear my bike. Usually the first sign of a mechanical problem is a weird noise.
If I'm anywhere near a road I would never think of wearing headphones. Too dangerous.
But I'll usually crank something like Uncle Tupelo, Son Volt, Jack Johnson, G. Love, Agents of Good Roots, or Donna the Buffalo on the way home in the Truck.

| Unless you blast along gravel fireroads (roadie style).. | Locoman Jan 23, 2003 8:13 AM | | Unless you blast along gravel fireroads (roadie style).. the trails should be stimulating enough. If not, it's time to step it up a notch.
No flame, just my opinion.. |
| Unless you blast along gravel fireroads (roadie style).. | Cook Jan 24, 2003 5:48 AM | | I always commuted with my walkman, and though I've only done it a couple of times, riding solo on the trails with some AC/DC (or whatever floats your boat) was a new and fun experience.
At the end of the day though, nothing beats a quiet moment and some cool scenery.

<br>Thanks for the shot Sofa!</td></tr></table><table width=) | | re: What music (if any) do you listen to while cycling | Sofa Jan 23, 2003 9:45 AM | | I see no reason to go out and look at crap, or hear nature to appreciate riding my bike. I love listening to music. Tunes from bike movies (NWD's have a really good selection...same with NWD3?)make for a real nice ride (if you can't go big, you can picture, via the soundtrack, people doing it. That's almost as good.
I generally like heavy, but not stupid heavy music. Dope, Disturbed, Coal Chamber (CC is as heavy as I like)are all good.
Sometimes when riding the green wheels, I prefer more mellow stuff...The Wall,(not the album version, the movie version..it's better), Marley, GreenDay is good, too. So is A3 (they sing the theme for the Sopranos...good riding beat)
I have a few mixes I made up especially for green-wheelin. (Of stuff I already purchased, of course )
Now, I don't need to look at stuff while rifding, like I said, but sitting down after a fatty for a while listening to the 'new' nature sounds, well, that can't be beat! |

| Okay; I'm a killjoy | Berkeley Mike Jan 23, 2003 11:35 AM | | Not being fully aware of the sounds around you when you ride puts other people at risk. Having said that I have to admit that after about 30 minutes and getting loose I often sing or whistle. What music? I never know; it just comes out. |
| Okay; I'm a killjoy | Sofa Jan 23, 2003 11:52 AM | | well, while listening to music, i do check back very frequently, (the straighter the trail, the less frequent) and slow down (as always) around blind turns, and intersections.
I think, even though I have no audio judgement, I'm still riding safely.
I only listen to it loud enough that I can hear it good, not crazy loud.
The only downside, is you can't hear something, like a rubbing chain (notquite in gear or something) or maybe the sound something droppped.
I'm still into riding with tunes,though :) |
| Safety is relative | Sofa Jan 23, 2003 11:59 AM | | I'm alot safer on the trails with a discman than in the boom box I drove to the trailhead in! :)
In my last post, i said 'just loud enough' ....I could still hear something if somebody really wanted me to hear it...like a shout, or a crash |
| Wind in my ears dh, heart & suckin' wind in my ears climbing... | man w/ one hand Jan 23, 2003 12:41 PM | | but if I had to pick Kranked 3 sound track rocks! I blow my wife &

| Lately... | Schecky Jan 23, 2003 2:40 PM | | it's been live Stiff Little Fingers or some Clash.
Me First and the Gimme Gimmes if I want to laugh.
I generally ride with 1 peg in the ear, one peg out.
Often I'll listen during the climbing half and put it away for the downhill. |
| re: What music (if any) do you listen to while cycling | bubem Jan 23, 2003 9:23 PM | | anything without those heavy beats especially when you're on some moderately traffic/2-way singletracks...i prefer britpop from badly drawn boy, starsailor, coldplay, spiritualized, beth orton, chem bros and early radiohead(circa 'the bends')...with some american folk/country rock thrown in for good measure like the shins(check out 'new slang'), ryan adams, wilco and son volt...and of course some constants that i never forget to bring along on epics and long drives - weezer, fountains of wayne, ozma and yeah, the greatest of 'em all - the fab four... |
