why are all overseas freeriders so crap!!!!!!!i come from a land downunder

ok.....i went along to watch the red bull ride in Jindabyne this year because the list of famous riders coming over was huge, klassen, schley, borden, peat, barrelcloth and i expected to see an awesome display of free ride talent not seen on our shores before.

what i saw were a bunch of crap riders all sponsored for some strange reason that were absonutly killed by the local talent. All the big names were way off the back of the pack and could hardly even ride the course meanwhile the local riders ripped it up.

these guys were meant to be the best in the biz.....pitty they all suck

I guess we'll be seeing all the Auzzie riders next time since they are the best (Ha HA ha). Believe me, Auzzie riders have nothin on the real Shore.

But I can't say much as I never saw the spectacle.

Here's some food for thought though.

You said the locals tore up the track, as they should. It's a definite homeground advantage. This always happens no matter what the competition is. The locals are often stupid fast at their own track, but take them out of there and often they fall apart. Note I said often not always. But take a genuine 'champion' and they will often kick the life out of anyone else, anywhere. People that can do that are rare, and when you see one that has EARNED it, then they are magical to watch no matter what kind of racing it may be.

Also consider that these guys are from the US (I guess). There are more people there, more cash to spread around. It's a population thing. Aussies are always the poor cousins in this regard which is sad considering what happens when the poor cousin gets half a chance. Well, we beat all comers anywhere. Don't make me name names or sports here folks... But think that Australia has 1/13th the US population, yet can boast so many country(wo)men as being king of the hill.

I don't argue that these imported folks maybe weren't all that good, but I know from experience that take the locals out of their neighbourhood pool and they often drown. Also that these sponsored guys in all actuality might actually suck too. I can't say for sure, but it wouldn't be unusual.

It's more involved than all that, but I'm typing on a half busted keyboard and don't wish to elaborate too far. I've seen it before and know how it works. It's why I expect to see the paid guys get kicked, but also know that sometimes that's what they get paid to do, kinda...

I agree...the locals ride/train there damn near every day, of course they're going to be faster, know the smooth lines etc...

I think the 1st and second place winners were from Western Australia, not exactly local as it is over 3000km from the race site. (that's if we're talking about the same race here)

Yours comparing the population of the USA with that of Australia...is your brain really present???

What a lot of Crap!...the USA automatically think they are the best of world at sports.
Look at the rankings (below) for the end of 2002. These are the official UCI standing for the mens XC. In the top 100 there are 3 Americans!!!....yes a piss poor 3! Australia have 6 in the top 100. I think the guy is right. Americans are poor performers on foreign soils. very very poor. Its got bollocks all to do with population. Its about talent and the US are seriously lacking.

Futhermore, AUS would crush the US at thisAuzzie Ozzbourne

Actually its not so ridiculous to believe that Australia could produce fitter athletes than the US. If you ever travel to Aus. you'll find that the people there are very fitness orientated from an early age. They are a tremendously healthy and fit nation and puts the US to shame in that respect. Actually nost nations put the US to shame when it comes to health and fitness.

Aussie athletes are in every major sporting event and do good.
I would like to see america's top NFL site square up to the Aussie National Rugby team. They would crush the soft bellied americans and they dont need helmets or ridiculous amounts of padding to do it.

Dont ever underestimate the Aussies. They are one of the most (if not THE most) sporting nations in the world.

dude, put the Fosters down already...the only thing the Aussie National Rugby team would crush is the beer cans they just emptied!!...a 1/2 decent NFL team would make a greasy spot on the field with your rugby team, mate!

While it's true the US leads the world in obesity, Australia is not too far behind. What's particularly worrying is the rate at which obesity is increasing in children under 9 - too much time in front of Playstations perhaps?

Australia prides itself on its elite sporting achievements. Australians are misproportionately represented on sporting podiums throughout the world. This is largely due to the massive funding injection into development of elite athletes via the Australian Institute of Sport that came about as a result of our humiliating performance at the 1976 Olympics at Montreal. This is fine, as long as grass-roots, participation rather than acheivement oriented sports and recreation are also encouraged/funded.

Hats off the the Australians who did so well at the Red Bull Ride, also hats off to all the competitors from around the world who came and rode the event. One look at the course makes you realise that anyone who can ride it at all is to be held in awe. I love seeing riders that are really good, I don't really care what country they come from. It just makes me want to get out and push myself a little harder.

If you're in AUS, SBS-TV will be running some highlights from the Red Bull Ride on the cycling show on Sunday 5:30pm AEST.

Just kidding, actually the majority of the top ten finishers at the last Redbull that were Canadians. Why only one made the top 10 in aus I can't say. Using your "fat and lazy" logic I count 9 Canadians in your UCI standing list. That's 3 more Canucks than Aussies for roughly the same population. How come?

The big names might have contracts constraining what they can do or events that they can be in. Also in order to meet their sponsorship obigations or in order to stay healthy for the race season they may decide not to participate.

On the other hand local talent is after those same contracts and sponsors so they have to prove themselves to some degree. Just think nothing to lose and willing to f themselves up in order to secure a contract or sponsor. Thats me $ .02 on the subject.
How can we believe you.. you're from an island of convicts. nmCrockdundee

i agree with all the people that said that people do worse away from their own area. maybe the americans and canadians couldn't breath the smoke? but if ozzies are so good, then where were they at rampage???? how come gracia, klasses, and barrecloth won that one, were there even any ozzies competing?
