Schwinn Homegrown, age, specs, help?singletrackthomas

I recently bought a homegrown factory frame from a guy that I met through the local bike club. He bought it from someone else, but had never gotten around to building it up. It doesn't have the integrated headset setup, so it doesn't appear to be a 2001. Searching online, I can't seem to find any information on homegrowns, accept for 2001's. Does anyone know when schwinn began to do the integrated headset in the homegrowns? Also, does anyone know how I can find out what year it is? After looking around online, it's looking like the homegrowns, especially the 01's, all seem to differ. The guy that I bought it from told me that the seatpost was a 26.8, but not much else. Any info I can get will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Thomas

I wasn't aware that they were even using integrared headsets on the homegrowns. I do know that they were actually made by Yeti and that they are light and high quality. A worthy aluminum hardtale race frame. One of my riding buddies has his down to 21lbs with little effort. I had to struggle to get my Fisher down to 23. The frame is by no means outdated and will make a great bike. Yeti might be able to help with specs .

My 97 Home grown has the painted on Home grown logo. It switched to a decal in 98 and 99. Also on the 97's there was a white schwinn "S" decal on the top tube towards the headtube. This changed to a checkered decal in 98. As far as the integrated headset goes, Schwinn switched to it for the 2000 models so you have at least a 99 or older model. I don't know if the hardtails are marked in the same spot or not but my suspension model has the serial number on the inside drive side drop out and it begins with the model year. Just some additional info; frt der T.S. T.P. 31.8. B.B. 73X110 (sq. taper) Last time I checked, Icycleusa was selling extra der. hangers for $5.00 you might want a couple if you're going to keep the frame for awhile. Here's a link to a Homegrown owners page that might be helpful but I don't know how current it is.

What color is the frame painted? The homegrown started life in 97, I think, but was candy apple red in 98.
It also has a 73mm BB, non-integrated HS and disc tabs on the rear triangle. It's a similar Unified Rear Triagle design to it's aluminum S-10 (?) model brother below, however the mainframe is hand laid carbon. Mine has both the tomato emblem and the checkered flag. An interesting note is that the AL rear drop outs have a tomato stamped into them just above the 1 bolt resplaceable cerailluer hanger. Hope this helps.Scott_in_Jersey

Hey, thanks for all of the info. If anyone is still reading this, here's some more info on how it looks. It's black, with stickers, not painted logos. There aren't any checker/flag stickers though. The serial number, on the opposite side of the derailleur hanger begins with 96B, if anyone can tell me anything else about it, that would be great.

Speaking of the hardtails only... One reason that it seems like the 2001's are so different is that people constantly (on ebay) list their 2000's as 2001's. The 2001's have the "N-Lightened" tubeset seat tube badges that have a scroll at the top and woman holding up a torch, etc.. (2000's have a rectangular seat tube badge with "???? Proprietary Tubing" on it). Also, the '01's have different rear drop outs with international standard disc mounts on the seat stay (the '00 has a 22mm Hayes-specific disc mount on the chainstay). The other specs are identical between '00 and '01's, other than available finishes. Sorry but I don't know a lot about pre-'00's, but there also seems to be some confusion about what is "Yeti-built" and what isn't.
I believe that Yeti stopped building for SchwinnEricTheRed

in '99. I also have a Homegrown of '99 and posted asking what year it was (gold w/ black bass boat paint style). Another way to tell if it was build by Yeti or another is to look at the junction between the seat stays and the seat tube, its it is an ovalized tube then its probably built by yeti, if its a special yolk then prolly not yeti.
