| KY Ride Ideas Needed! | RastaMasta Feb 25, 2003 9:49 PM | | I'm thinking of taking a trip to KY in a few weeks and could use some ideas for a long weekend of riding. We are looking at Land between the lakes, or some trails in the D.B. Nat'l Forest.
Any specific ideas?
What kind of trail conditions can we expect? |
| LBL (land between the lakes) Is great. Hiking trails and...... | 242 Barham Feb 26, 2003 3:57 AM | | atv/motorcycle trails are everywhere. You can ride for days on what they call the "trace" Just expect an occasional horse and atv treat them as you would like to be treated and all will be well. Good people with a love of the outdoors. Locals wont think much of your pink and flo green jersey, so if u can keep your outfit quite and be prepared for second hand smoke(everybody smokes) and u will have fun. I have lived in Hopkinsville for 5 years and enjoyed my stay. Trails are rough and can be eroded, and yes there are some decent hills. Plenty of ranger stations and maps to be had. Stop by and ask for help they love to help. Have not been to Daniel Boone but I hear it can be a real "Adventure" A little more "rural" if u know what I mean.
Have fun

| LBL feedback | Steve-O Feb 26, 2003 6:30 AM | | I have been to LBL three times and have nothing but good things to say about this area. The Canal Loop Trail is a really fun rollercoaster ride that can be enjoyed by riders of different skills. The North-South Trail is a 31 mile "epic" trail if you are looking for an all day riding experience.
Hillman Ferry is your basic campground setting and you should be able to get in there in March and April. Memorial Day can a little tough as the campground fills up (Had to use overflow camping several years ago)...
If your into fishing or boating then you'll have some fun opportunities also. There is a small outdoors store in Grand Rivers that rents kayaks for day trips.
The only downside that I can think of is that it is a dry county down there so BYOB. |
| Thanks | RastMasta Feb 26, 2003 10:35 AM | | Thanks for the feedback, LBL sounds like a good time and I'll be sure to BMOB. |
| LBL | porkchop Feb 27, 2003 2:32 PM | | Let me know if you want to hook up for a ride if you come to LBL I live about 100mi away (evansville, IN) and am always looking for an excuse to go down there for a ride. I used to ride there almost weekly when I was going to college in Murray, KY pioneersop96@yahoo.com |

| Cave Run Lake | MellowCat Feb 26, 2003 8:46 PM | | Cave Run lake is great. Written up in Bike Magazine a few years back. 65 miles of trails, most singletrack. Try the Sheltowee Trace Trail from the Clear Creek campground area. Head south for a nice Natural Bridge and a nice scenic overlook. Trails are kinda remote, bring a friend...
Check out www.singletrack.net too. |
| Big thumbs-up for Cave Run | JimW Feb 27, 2003 5:38 AM | | Lotsa good riding there.
Mostly sand stone, so it dries out pretty quickly.
Good camping situation, too.
