2002 Manitou Black Elite Air Question, NEED HELP! (5 posts)
| 2002 Manitou Black Elite Air Question, NEED HELP! | DonDinero Feb 26, 2003 5:11 PM | | I recently purchased Manitou Black Elite Airs. I was wondering if I can take off the little fork booties without it affecting the performance of the fork. I can move them up and they appear to have a pretty solid seal. Is it okay to remove them?

| I wouldn't do it.. | Mac in the UK Feb 26, 2003 9:59 PM | | I have a Mars Elite and it's a nice fork when clean, but performance degrades when water and dirt get past the dust seals. The boots help slow this process, but even so riding in the UK winter means I have to remove the legs and clean the contaminated grease after every five rides or so. Removing the boots would make this worse and possibly void your warranty. I imagine the black would have the same problem as the Mars. |
| I DID it but..... | TM Feb 27, 2003 1:08 AM | | All of a sudden my fork performace sucks well I think it does anyhow but am not too sure if it is attributed to this or not! Also MTB Action had a question in like the Ask R.C Section and he said it would be fine! |
| maybe try this.... | JimW Feb 27, 2003 5:28 AM | | I've seen references to a product called "enduro seals" that sell for about $20. I was thinking about getting a set myself for my SX-R, and ditching the fork boots.
Anyway, ask over on the shocks forum. You should get a good response over there. |
