| Hey all you Giant Warp DS riders... | warped Feb 26, 2003 11:18 PM | | I know this is an inexpensive bike that some seem to like upgrading and turning into a beefy trail bike.
Share your upgrades and builds?
I just picked up a nice DS1 frame from a local seller and want to build it up as a trail bike.
The Warp frame seems to get built up and marketing in various ways around the world. The attached pic is one example of how it's sold overseas as a beefy bike, yet here in the USA it's sold as a recreational bike.

| Got 2 of those.............. | Shane73 Feb 27, 2003 7:28 AM | | One frame is naked and will be traded to a friend this weekend. The other is now a lightweight trail bike with v-brakes (used the disc brakes and wheels on another ride). Great frames!! Build it however you want. I've used mine with triple wall rims, short stems, DH bars and MRP guide for jumping 15 foot gaps, then rebuilt with a lightweight buildup for high mileage trail rides and hills. Love the new frame, too (mine are 2001 DS1's). |

thx for sharing your ride and thoughts.
think i am builing mine as a budget trail bike for long rides and hills. trying to score a deal on a used marzocchi mxr fork and then i will cannibalize the rest from my xc hardtail. |

I swapped out the stem first thing to get the bars in a position more to my liking. The next to go were the cranks, probably the cheapest thing on the bike. I picked up the RaceFace Prodigy XC with BB from pricepoint for $110. I still have the stock rims, haven't tweaked them yet and I have done some fast rocky downhills, some jumps, nothing more than about 3 to 4 foot drops. I upgraded to a 8 inch rotor on the front, even though its not recommended with the Marzocchi Z-5 fork. I still have the original Hayes HMX-1 mechanical brakes, getting time to replace the calipers. My next upgrade is going to be either the gripshift 9.0sl or the x.0 system. Still looking for a good deal on those. After that, maybe the rear shock, although the stock one works very well for me.
Overall, I have had mine for 2 years now, and about 1000 miles of riding, and I absolutely love this bike. It's a bit on the heavy side, as I have it set-up as a beefy trail-bike IMO, but for the price, you can't beat it. |
