| Do you think sealed cable systems are better or not? | Locoman Mar 27, 2003 12:33 PM | | I've been running Avid fjackets, no real complaints. I just wanted to know if you think running these or the gore version are really worth it.
This is for shifting not brakes. |
| re: Do you think sealed cable systems are better or not? | woodyak Mar 28, 2003 11:13 AM | | I've done the Gores, the Flaks, and now I run full housing. The Gores worked well but they were a pain to install and they didn't last that long. I had a branch scratch the gore coating and it basicaly unraveled after a couple more weeks. The Flaks worked nice but they didn't last as long as I thought they would. I banged one of the red protecters and it made a crease that caused friction.
I run full housing now on both brakes and der's. It's been great so far. Almost a year and I haven't had to do any cleaning or maint. at all. |

I got LX shifters, an Avid Rolamajig and installed the cables with Finish line dry teflon lube. I dripped it on the cables as I threaded them through.
OMFG this is some smooth pimp daddy shifting!
I'd be hard pressed to improve on this setup I think. Full cable housing made a pretty good improvement over broken housing. It does add a tad of weight though. Big whoop... |
| Latest Gore RideOn better. | B R H Mar 30, 2003 8:02 AM | | I recently installed the latest version of the RideOn cables (actually in the Ultralight version) and they have changed considerably. The cable is now stainless steel and has a coating that is much more dense (not GoreTex). I don't think this coating will peel like the older ones (my old ones peeled and the stuff bunched up and caused friction). You also don't have to peel the coating off the new cable at the clamp (one of the things that was a bit of a pain with the old version). Much improved in my opinion, but time will tell. |
