Drop outs on my 2001 fsr XC HELP PLEASE!(5 posts)

Drop outs on my 2001 fsr XC HELP PLEASE!james
Mar 27, 2003 4:23 PM
Not long after i built up my 2001 fsr xc pro i noticed that the quick release heads had to be rediculously tight to keep from moving in the rear drop outs. by the time i got the QR tight enough not to move, the drop outs had already lost enough aluminum that there is a serious problem keeping the QR in place. has anyone else encountered this problem? what is the best QR to use to keep the axl in place. is there a fix to the drop oouts them selves (they are not removeable.)
thanks

What type of skewers do you have?Tscheezy

They might just suck. Salsa makes very good skewers which hold well. It really should not take all that much pressure to keep the wheel in the drops. I don't have an FSR but I have not heard of this issue with them. Are they semi-horizontal or something silly like that?

I have had that problem on my 2000 S-Works FSR. Ive heard of other people who have as well.

Solution?

Snug it up real tight.

End of story.

Try using a Quick release nut that is all metal and has a large knurled surface (face). The One that came with my bike was a plastic nut with a small knurled surface that was chewing up my dropout. I just replaced it with a nut from a early 1990s XT quick release it seems a lot more solid.
