NEED to decide bike to buy...Please help...Skuba
Mar 28, 2003 12:21 AM
Hi,
I need a bike for XC and I don't have a lot of money.
The options I can afford now are the Specialized ROckhopper and Giant Rainier.
There is also the Giant Warp DS2, but I heard is not good.
Any other from other brands?
I would appreciate your input in which to buy.

From just looking at the parts list, it seems to have a better overall package. I will admit that I am not a big fan of Specialized (for no specific reason). I read in Mountain Bike and MBA that the Rainier is one of the best bikes in that price range. Plus those disks are going to kill the Tektros on the Rockhopper any day. It all comes down to which you like better. Good luck.

get the rainier. disc brake are nice.

the warp is a decent bike though. people knock it and diss it, but it ain't too shabby. it's heavy in stock form and needs a diet. but the frame is strong for basic small hucks. it's not a sprinting bike and climbs are best done seated.

if you want a good XC bike, then go for the rainier.
if you want a bike to throw around and play with, then maybe consider the warp.
