| Wheel not spinning like others | mtbaddict Mar 28, 2003 8:00 AM | | I have a set of Sun Rhyno Lite rims laced to xt disk hubs with Specialized Enduro Pro 2.2 tires on them. I notice they do not spin near as long as my Rolfs with Panaracer Fire XC 2.1 tires or a friends rear wheel when the bike is in a stand or lifted off the ground. Could the added weight of the rim, hub & tire cause this or some other problem? There is no brake drag or anything else that would prohibit the wheel from spinning. |
| Could be many things..... | FreeRangeChicken Mar 28, 2003 8:36 AM | | Could be the viscosity of the lube in your bearings, lack of lube in your bearings, quality of bearings in your hubs, how tight your bearing cups are set, etc.
In general, more weight at the rim (heavier rims, heavier tires, heavier tubes) will spin longer if spun at the same initial rate on the same hub(or hubs with the same amount of drag) because it has more energy (E=1/2*mass*velocity^2).
Make sure your hubs are properly lubed, and the cups are properly adjusted. |
| Doesn't matter how long they spin ... | Philber Mar 28, 2003 9:32 AM | | It's how smoothly. Feel the hub while they're spinning slowly and feel for resistance, grittiness or roughness. Listen for clicks or ticks. If it's smooth and quiet, and it spins without any noticeable resistance, then it's fine. |
