Rockhopper 2003 or Rainier 2003(3 posts)

Rockhopper 2003 or Rainier 2003Skuba
Mar 28, 2003 5:49 PM
I can get a Rockhopper or a Rainier for almost the same price. The rainier will cost $25 more only.
Which should I get?
A lot of people saying to get Rockhopper, although the Rainier has 9 speed, the fork is Axel super, while on rockhopper is Axel comp. Rainier has clipless pedal and disc brake.
Nevertheless, people are saying to get Rockhopper, which is 8 speed.
What is your opinion?
Thanks

Gee, if you could just scrape up another $200 you could get a Stumpjumper.... Far lighter with such better components that I would certainly look into it.
I know, every $200 its the same old story...but there is really a large weight difference between the Stumpjumper and the Rainier. Probably about 4 pounds.

Hope I havent made your decision even harder.

I've seen 2003 Stumpjumpers for easily under $999, perhaps even $899 if you could get a good deal..

I'm not sure what the Rainier is going for retail..

If you could find the extra bucks, I'm sure you wouldnt regret it.

I can buy the bikes with employee price. So the rockhopper would cost 350 (usually 500) and the rainier 377 (usually 700).
I don't have more than that to spend.
Could you guys help me?
Thanks
