the descriptions are pulled right from JensonUSA.com, he even left a reference to Jenson in one of them.

The guy does not have the product he is selling. How do you know?

1) He has no feedback.
2) He does not have a picture of the bike (only one taken from a web site).
3) Notice the similarities:

The pictures and descriptions are pulled from manufacturer websites, online retailers websites and even legit sellers ads here on mtbr. the sellers have no feedback and are newly registered. the adds contain major mistakes like listing completely different components than those shown on the bike's picture. the seller, when asked a question, is always on holidays in italy or spain or wherever. the seller only takes money transfers from western union. it goes on and on... check this thread for similar problems:

Sure. Buyer's beware all over eBay. Note this is not uique to bikes, many items are placed for bid by owners who do not actually own the goods. I have been browsing adds for bikes on ebay for quite some time and to be honest with you, other than maybe components, most stuff sells over it's actual value.
The point I want to make is that I am not sure if these are scams or even against eBay's rules (do anyone on this forum know ?). However, if you bidded on the site as the user "do not bid its a scam", you may be in trouble with eBay (not sure how much arm they can do to you but I don't think this is allowed either).
The guy is taking a big chance because he has not yet ordered the bikes from Janson, he cannot be 100% sure he will get the right size, color, etc. and delivered on time, and will have to endorse any delivery problems. Note also, that the seller is based in Canada where prices may differ and customs duty apply, does he add a value service to this? I would tend to agree that this is cheap business. Maybe the best thing to do would be to report this activity to eBay themselves and ask if they are in breach of any of their terms and conditions.

If SrSpoke can't see the scam here he would deserve to lose his money if he were to bid. These ads all have the same "style" and many ads with this same style have been pulled by eBay lately and this guy keeps comong back with more. The big question is how they are doing it since you need a credit card to be a seller so eBay can charge the card for their fee.

The number 1 reason eBay will pull an auction is if they aren't going to get their fees and they won't with a stolen cc. I lurk at a message board of eBay users that caught and watched a full fledged scam occur and after being warned and showed the evidence eBay allowed the auctions to continue. http://www.onlineathens.com/stories/032603/tec_20030326035.shtml
The end result was that bidders were out over $100,000 and eBay did nothing until the negs piled up.

The above seller also illustrates another common way to scam. You start out buying and selling low priced items to build up feedback like they did selling dvd's to build confidence and then list 250 auctions at the same time of high end electronics. This seller stated in the auction that the items would be dropped shipped and to not expect delivery for around 2-3 weeks, hella lot of money comes in before anybody suspects anything and then the first neg comes and they get busted by astute eBay observers.

If there is nothing personal in the ad, no picture taken personally by the seller, a shades icon, and the seller lists Canada there's an extremely good chance these days that the auction is a scam. Western Union only is also a sure sign.

Buyer beware,
Tom

Well, if the seller intends to auction an item that he/she will order from Janson him/herself and get delivered directly to the buyer, then this may be ok by eBay's rules. I wouldn't put my money in it, like I said earlier I have been wathching many bike auctions on eBay and haven't found that overall eBay is a better deal than some on-line distributors. The genuine deals from factory close-outs, local shops close-outs and good second hand deals and few and far in between. I have also monitored other items such as bike trailers for kids for example, and you will find a lot of bids for burleys and insteps reaching higher prices than on-line retailers, and sometime local retailers (!!!), worse auctions start very low to attract as many people's attention as possible, then get people hooked up and finally want to win. So, yes buyer's beware, eBay is full of shady businesses, especially with the slowdown in the economy, a lot of people are looking at making a living on this auction site. And don't forget your bike shop, I was at one of my favorites today to look for a bb for my 1979 racer (vintage like me...) and found what I needed, and discussed with the owner on a new mtb and I know this will be a much sweeter deal than I can find on eBay, + fully serviced and a smile.
