months. In Sept of 02 I bit it hard on the Sea Otter course and ended up with a Fourth Degree Separation of my left shoulder. I tore four of the five ligaments in my shoulder and was left only with the option of surgery to repair. My Orthopedic Surgeon was cool and gave me the opportunity to complete the Sea Otter and the 24 Hours of Adrenalin at Laguna prior to the surgery.

I'll be off the bike for about two months, so I'll be living vicariously through your strings and pictures. Oh well, in rough sports you play hard – you pay hard. The trainer and I are going to be good friends over the next few weeks!

whoa, i did much the same in nov. 02. crashed hard, broke the tuberosity? dislocated the shoulder, damaged the axilary nerve, and basically destoyed the shoulder joint. been to er, primary, ortho surgeon, and specialist at UCLA. been going to phys. therapy which is helping( maybe 110 degrees )but have decided not to do surgery. im back to riding (3 months now), but its coming back slow, its tuff trying to overcome the voices in your head, they are much louder now than before the accident. im at about 75 to 80%, at 42 yrs old if it doesnt get much better i think i can live with it. a bit of advise now (you probably know already) after surgery be sure when they tell you to keep the joint moving you do it! ive paid the price for not following that council, its probably set back my recovery by months. good luck and Gods speed, hope the return to dirt is quick. I've been there. Got hit by a car last year. The time off will pass quickly and you'll be back on the bike in no time. Just hit the trainer while you watch Lance whip up on the rest of the peloton at the TdF.

Get well soon!
Good luck with surgery....had a 3rd degree two summers ago....Ebo

and so far have avoided surgery. Certainly not close to 100% but neither was the shoulder before that crash. Seem to land on my right side too often. Once again, good luck.

I was off the bike for about 3 months a few years back...It really does go by fast. Try to spend your free time doing stuff you normally don't do because you're always on the bike. Personally, I spent a lot of time with my Mom and Dad, in addition to the very important time spent drinking coffee at Barnes and Noble and reading bike mags. (Actually, I spent a fair amount of time in the Mall too, but then, I'm a girl)

Do you have some cycling videos to watch on the trainer? We have a good one called Suffer-o-Rama. Also, watching the Tour on OLN should make those minutes go by faster.

Good Luck
