I've only used time aliums and have been pleased with them to date. Can anyone pursuade me to go with the '02 beaters instead for $79 as opposed to the '03 Time's for $59?

Pricepoint.com has egg-beaters for 60 bucks. I'm not positive they still do, but they did a few weeks ago.
What for? nmfred³

I'm about to buy a new set of pedals and was wondering if there was any significant reason to go with the beaters over my good 'ol standbye: da Times.
Depends on what "signifigant" means to you...woodyak

I went from good ole Times to Egg Beaters and I ended switching back after 1 season. The biggest benefit of the Beaters is that they are very light. It was also nice that you could click in from different directions. The downside was that I didn't like the feel of such a small platform, it felt like I was riding on the balls of my feet all the time. I had to replaced the bushings/bearings 2x in 4 months because they wore out giving the axle a lot of play. I went through 3 sets of cleats in 6 months. The cleats wore out very quickly. I lost count of how many times my feet came unclipped causing me to bail out. And finally, whenever my pedal hit a rock my shoe was bounced out of the pedal.

I say stick with the Times.
You should be able to buy '02 CB Eggs for much less than $80 (nm$$$

I rode eggbeaters for 4 months. I'm back to SPDs. I did not them at all. Getting ejected fron the pedal because it hit a rock was just too dangerous for me. It was not as easy to get in or out as the SPDs. I like how light they are, how they look, ease of cleaning, and mud clearence, but I will not recomend them for mountain biking. I put them on my road bike. That gets some looks.
