| Help! - Fork Crown Clearance Prob. | Dr.Faustus May 21, 2003 5:34 PM | | Help!
I'm getting my hardtail (Strong Frames, Columbus Foco with the big coffin-shaped downtube) built up and it turns out that a Fox Float 100 RL will not clear the down tube. The adjustment knobs on the top of the crown hit the downtube so the fork will not rotate through 360°. The frame has a nice Cane Creek headset mounted (same stack height as a Chris King) and I really don't want to go searching for some headset with a taller lower race/stack height.
More info:
*The frame originally had a '00 or '01 Marzocchi Bomber Z1 XFly mounted with another Cane Creek Headset and that worked fine.
*I'd like to go with a reasonably light (prob. air) and stiff X-country style, single crown fork (hence the original Fox Float choice)
Questions:
*Would a '03 Rock Shox Duke Race crown and knobs clear the downtube?
*What other '02 or '03 forks would clear the downtube?
Thanks,

| possible solution | club May 22, 2003 5:15 AM | | Huh. Usually you see that on really small "chick" bikes. I had to file the adjusters on my girlfriend's Manitou4 to clear the downtube on her Yo Betty. Someone here posted pix of a head tube extender I think made by Serotta(?) that you can press into the head tube, and then install the lower race into that. It would raise your fork, but looks to be otherwise an elegant solution. |

What I found on the Serotta website was for 1" headtubes - so I don't think that will work for me.
Thanks for the suggestion though,
