| Mountain Biking in Alaska | Crystal May 22, 2003 9:56 AM | | Anyone have any recommendations for mountain biking near Anchorage, AK? I'm possibly looking for a shop to rent from as well as a guide for 1-2 days. Thanks! |

When are you visiting? There is still good riding to be had though. The great longer trails are down on The Kenai, and most probably still have allot of tree dead fall from winter.
Near Anchorage head over to hillside, lots of somewhat boring wide xc-ski trails. |
| There are some good trails right in town..... | AK Ken May 22, 2003 1:06 PM | | Campbell Creek tract is laced with trails, as well as Kincaid Park.
The Bicycle Shop a block or so east of REI (opposite side of Northern Lights, adjacent to Hogg Brothers Cafe) is a good place to start, as well as The Bicycle Department of The Motorcycle Shop on Potter Drive.
There is a WOMBAT (Women's Mountain Biking and Tea Society) chapter in Anchorage, and the president works at Paramount Cycles.
Good luck.

One idea is to take the bus (which you can put your bike on the front) and take it to Eklutna lake (about 25 miles outside of Anchorage) only cost a $1. From there ride Eklutna lake on a higher elevation but mainly flat/rolling nice trail along the lake for about 10 miles, and turn around. Nothing technical but very scenic.
