New hardtail frame that I've never seen(9 posts)

New hardtail frame that I've never seenSanta Clause

Here it is on Ebay. What do you guys know about this sweet sassy? I have never heard of this. In the ad he calls it Carbon, but the few European sites that I've found it on, call it composite. I thought that there was a difference in the two. Tell whatcha know!

Thanks!

I think you put up the wrong link, cause that is a giant mcm team. Nice bike, but not as you described. Check your link.
I didn't describe it!Santa Clause

He describes it in his ad. he calls in a carbon frame. I've seen the MCM team frame on the UK site, but they describe it as "High modulus composite frame for lighter weight, better rigidity and outlook"! It is not listed on Giant USA site. RedMantra, educate me. I have wanted the tooth fairy to bring me the Trek 9.9 or 9.8 frame for some time. How does this compare to those as far as strength goes? I have never seen that frame until recently. I'm spread pretty thin lately and have not kept up with all the new stuff. Excuse my ignorance, but I wondered if I had found a great deal on a really sweet frame!

Thanks!

Looks to me like the lugs (where the "tubes " join) is the composite material, while the "tubes" are carbon fiber. Probably makes it lighter.

doesn't have the carbon weave appearance. Looks sweet, but I hate bidding or purchasing ANYTHING without fully investigating into it. My wife isn't going to let me get it anyway, who am I kidding?
All carbon frames are compositeshiggy

Composite just means more than one material is used or it has a build-up construction, in this case the carbon fiber, resin and maybe Kevlar and/or other materials. A combo of steel and aluminum, Ti and aluminum, or even plywood sheets are composites.

The Giant's basic frame design has been around for at least 5 years.
So what is your opinion on this frame?Santa Clause

Would you say that this is comparable to the Treks? I understand the root word and meaning behind "composite", but I just haven't seen the frame anywhere listed as carbon composite. In your explanation, it could be a composite of peanutbutter and jelly!(I'm not being ugly when I say that.)
Nice frames. Be sure it has IS disc tabs...shiggy

...the early frames used Formula disc mounts that were slightly different and non-compatible with the current IS disc brakes.

BTW "composite" usually means carbon in the same way "alloy" usually means aluminum even though both have broader meanings.

A few years ago Huffy had big "Titanium" decals on a steel bike. There was ~0.1% Ti in the steel alloy.
It´s 1,2 kg and the frame that Giant riders are racing...Lafayette

...when not FS.Isn´t Bart Brengens riding one?
Just a assuption about the lugs look:at the straightest sections, the fibers(carbon the black and kevlar the white, this mix is the reason they call it composite and not plain carbonfiber) are layered up easily giving a clean straight look...but when approaching the intersections things get complicated and the fibers don´t look that nicely and clean layered anymore (much more visible with the white kevlar black carbon contrast, actually at the picture showing the BB from the bottom you can see the fibers at the diagonal "tube" starting to get in a little disorder when aproaching the head "tube")in order to not showing that they decided to paint it.
Might be also that lugs are diferent pieces(also with more complicated layering but probably same material, thus painted as well) and are bonded with the tubes....I think any of both are possible.
