2.2 - 2.4 tire that weighs less than my wheels.dorfpunk

Looking for a larger tire that can cope with a variety of conditions including swamp-like mud (this stuff is sticky and turns a non mud stire into an enormous heavy semi-slick). Also don't want something to big and heavy. Ride weekend warrier XC/LightFR/Technical whatevayoucallit just having fun. Presently riding specialized team master/control set up which are OK but as they start to wear out I look a little bigger

thanks
Check out Schwalbe...Metroid

Either the Big Jim 2.25 or the King Jim 2.35. Wears very well, much better than any Special Ed tire I've owned. I've had the Big Jims since last July and they're still going strong. I just ordered a King Jim front specific (softer compound) to try out. They have decently widely spaced knobs so they shed mud well. Very predictable, great traction. Excellent all-arounders.

I have Continental tires...Mario

My front is Continental Vertical Protection 2.3 and my rear is Conti Escape Protection 2.0.

They are great all around, quite light, good traction in mud.

I like some comments I read lately about Schwalbe so maybe next time I'll try those but for sure you wouldn't be disapointed with Conti Vertical.

Good luck
I had Explorer/Escape combo before the Jims...Metroid

The Escape is definitely on the small side for a 2.0 tire. It's probably half the volume of the Big Jim or Vert Pro. The Escape is okay in the mud but the Vert Pro and Explorers pack up pretty easily. It's too bad they don't have a 2.3 sized Escape. I think that would be a great tire. The Contis do have the "edge" on cornering though. The Conti "endless edge" is outstanding for hard leaning corners.
I agree with you, Escape 2.0 very small, prone to snake...Mario

I agree with you, Escape 2.0 very small, prone to snake bite if you don't inflate it enough. This is my only complaint for this setup. However I kind of like to run a smaller tire rear than front. I find that it helps the traction in mud and also mud does not stack up so much on the main pivot, front derailleur area.

For the front I have nothing to say against the Vertical. Mud or dry, this tire is just great.

Seems like Germans really have it with bike tires. Both Conti and Schwalbe are German companies...

What's your exact setup front/rear?
