| Frame? | Santa Clause Jun 18, 2003 8:00 AM | | Who makes a really strong frame that comes in size 21" or larger without an integrated headset? I'm looking for a disc brake only frame too. |

| Not enough info. . . | Stick Jun 18, 2003 1:08 PM | | oh, and ignore fred. He likes to be titus' cheerleader, but in nearly 12 yrs of riding off-road, the only frame I've ever seen break cleanly into two pieces was a Titus Loco-Moto (break in top and down tubes, simultaneously).
That's not to say they're all bad, but take it for what it's worth nonetheless.
That said, what do you want to do with the bike? How and where do you ride, and how much do you want to spend? Steel or ALuminum? HT or full suspension? Based on your limited info, there're dozens of companies who make frames to suit you. 21" is a stock size for many manufacturers. If you go w/ a custom builder, the sky's the limit.
If it's an affordable HT trailbike your after, look at Jamis Komodo. Disc only, beefy aluminum, long-travel single crown fork. Good trail bike for the money. Too many others to list without narrowing it down a bit. |
| Not enough info. . . | Santa Clause Jun 18, 2003 8:05 PM | | Going to make a 1x9'er for the road and flat trails. I'm a big guy, so I wanted something beefy. I wanted something carbon/composite because it was supposed to be the strongest and lightest. I have a Giant MCM Team composite frame that is just off stage in case I decide to go that way. What about the Eureka? It looks beefy too! I'm not crazy about the Komodo's top bar! I hate that slant! Raleigh has a sweet frame for strength, but they don't have email correspondence for me to find out if they have a frame without the integrated headset and the cantilever posts. Don't want either. Anyone know? I'm hoping that the composite will be strong enough. If I had the dough for the Specialized S-works M5 HT, there would be no dilemma!! |
