Panaracer Fire XC pro question(11 posts)

Panaracer Fire XC pro question5.10

I have decided to pick up a pair of the XC pros, but I can't seem to figure out which are the "good ones". I have read about the 127 vs 66 tpi etc. Can anyone tell me are these the good ones? I'm going to be getting the 1.8 version.

Thanks

with 127 TPI.

Weight of the 66 TPI is something like 640g or 660g for the 2.1".

I've used both pretty extensively. The side walls blow out of the 66 TPI pretty quickly for me, making them much more expensive per mile than the pricier (initially) 127 TPI version.

If you have a side view, you can easily distinguish them.

The 66 TPI version has clean, colorful graphics and no inner band of red color at the rim.

The 127 TPI version has graphics which look like they were chalked on the sidewall by an eight year-old, and it always shows the red band near the rim, regardless of which color outer band you selected.

I have no idea why the graphics are so poor on the more expensive, better model!
Thanks all (nm)5.10

Besides the 66 and 127 TPI factor, there is the wire bead and kevlar bead factor. That link shows the good ones, 127 TPI and kevlar (because it says folding, wire bead you can not fold) The 66 TPI ones are made in a big bike factory in Taiwan (a lot of bikes, Schwinn etc. are made in Taiwan, I bet they are all made in 1 factory hehe) and the 127 TPI ones are made in Japan. It should say on the tire where it is made when you get it.

And found this below the Fire XC Pro specs.

Panaracer is aware that there are two version of the Fire tire on the market in N. America.
One is made in our own factory and the other is made for us for OEM use.
While Panaracer does not endorse the selling of the OEM version,
through various means the tire has entered the market and has become available.
We want you to be better informed so you'll make the right tire purchase for your needs.

I don't understand, they say the OEM is made for them but yet they do not endorse it? LOL They are having someone make it for THEM and yet they dont support it? Okay whatever.

At cambriabike.com they sale the wire and kevlar beaded tires but both have the basic logo design on them (I'm pretty sure with the pictures they show there) . So there is also an OEM Wire bead version w/ the pretty logo? So actually 3 verions of the Fire XC Pro?

127 TPI Kevlar Bead - Made in Japan
66 TPI Wire (Official with basic logo) - Made in Japan
66 TPI Wire (OEM with nice graphic logo)- Made in Taiwan

No?

My 2000 Schwinn Moab came with the ones made in Taiwan, the OEM ones I believe. Omg this is confusing! I'm contacting Panaracer haha.

This is what they said..

OEM is for bike manufacturers ONLY. We do not endorse the sale in the AFTERMARKET.

127 Kevlar, and 66 steel come from Japan and have large white lettering.

66 tpi Kevlar and 27 tpi steel come from Taiwan and they have a small, colored hot patch.

The bike factories sell these into the aftermarket. NOT our distributors.

So Panaracer tells the Taiwan Factory to make these tires and they also sell them in the aftermarket..interesting. Did you guys know that this Taiwan factory is also home to many bike companies like Schwinn and Giant..a lot of bikes if you notice are made in Taiwan..probably in this same big factory where the OEM tires are made.

LOL there is a 27 TPI version too? Wth so offical ones only come in 127 tpi kevlar and 66 steel while the oem is 66 kevlar and 27 steel? did he mean 127?

I have 66 tpi steel with the hot color patch..shit panaracer doesn't even know what they make.. They say the OEM 66 TPI is kevlar, yet on my schwinn i have steel cuz you can not fold them and you can feel the steel bead in the tire...

omg still confused...e-mailing them back..
Okay they e-mailed me back..iRoNeTiK
