| Discuss Quick Poll: What kind of bar do you prefer? | gregg Jun 18, 2003 11:29 AM | | Current Quick Poll is: What kind of bar do you prefer?
choices are:
-flat
-riser
-any bar with happy hour!
This is a revisit to the same question we asked about 2 years ago. At that time, 52% of the people chose riser, 38% chose flat, and the rest chose the joke option.
I would guess that this time around, the percentage of people who choose riser, will be larger.
As a side question, what do you think about bar ends on riser bars? With the rise in popularity of riser bars, does this mean the end of bar ends?

| 25" wide, 9 degress back | BH Jun 18, 2003 11:42 AM | | and I'm running both flat and riser bars on different bikes that accomplish it. Riser or flat is kind of irrelevant. The bar needs to be at the correct height, the correct width and the correct angle. |
| ditto what he explained, and | derby Jun 18, 2003 11:56 AM | | I found no need or comfort advantage for bar ends any more by using a wider bar than I used to with bar ends (was using b-ends with 22 inches flat, 12 degree sweep).

| I gots two flats.... | GirchyGirchy Jun 18, 2003 3:07 PM | | A 22" 5 degree bar on my main bike, and a 28" 12 degree (?) flat on my old Mongoose. I also have a 23" 6 degree bend sitting around. Never been a big riser fan...too heavy if you don't have the money for a carbon.

| Titec Hellion Ti 25.2" wide, small rise, no idea on sweep/angle | scrublover Jun 18, 2003 3:16 PM | | Got 'em on both mtbs and love them. Wide, but not too wide. Little extra cush, maybe. I can't really tell. But I have more confidence in their ability to take abuse than a carbon or most lightweight alu bars. Plus, they are just gripalicious!
46cm c-c on the roadie and 42cm c-c on the commuter (drops)

| re: Discuss Quick Poll: What kind of bar do you prefer? | Stingray63 Jun 25, 2003 5:20 PM | | I'm an old-school rider. We used both types of bars back in the day.we didn't consider this important back then and it's amusing now.Today's risers are better.I use both bars depending on the ride I have planned.I noticed there isn't much difference when it comes to width and angles.Risers make me feel like I'm riding a flattracker which is cool but I also like the aero/fast ride of the XC bar.I thank the freeriders for making my sport cool again. |
