Cannondale recalls!Subzero

I own a 98 Cannondale Raven 2000. Spoke to my LBS and they said that maybe need to go back to Cannondale. What's the deal on this? Can I please get some information? Has anyone here made a return on this bike? Thanks everyone!

The 1998 "Raven" was not recalled (frames). It was the "Raven II" (2000-up) that had frame and seatpost recall. The pre-2000 Raven's were heavier because they used an aluminum spine and didn't have the same bonding problem that the Raven II had.

As for the Raven II, they recalled them due to the area around the BB was delaminating thus causing breakage in the magnesium lower half. As for the seatpost recall, they gave the owners a new clamping system...thats all. The 2000-up Raven's were 4.7lbs.

When all else fails, call 1-800-BIKEUSA to find out about your frame. Make sure to have frame serial number ready.

BTW: The link Mellow Yellow gave was for the Gemini, not Raven :)

What I was told Cannondale has concerns about all Raven models made back in 98' or earlier. I was told the swing-arm had some issues as well I read that somewhere, not sure where though. I've ridden this bike alot and have started to hear some strange noises during the ride. I believe fatigue on this frame is an issue and needs to be replaced before something goes wrong. Hopefully Cannondale will hook me up with a replacement, and if not I'll just sale my Raven and go get me a new Jekyll 1000.

Cannondale "may" have expressed concerns but technically and legally, only the 2000's had the "official" recall. The other years are subject to judgement call by Cannondale (not required).

As for the swing-arm, this again is limited to the 2000's where they have a "bonded" rear swing-arm. Failure in these units is even rarer yet...

As for your "strange noises during a ride"...that can be MANY things un-related to frame or swing-arm. Wash your bike and inspect it very close, inch-by-inch. If you have a good LBS (Cannondale dealer), take it to them with your concerns and see if they can find anything. Just be carefull of them trying to sell you something just to make a buck (I see it all the time).

The Jekyll is nice, and in some cases, Cannondale will replace a Raven II frame for a Jekyll. Be warned, the Jekyll frame is heavier and has a "different" ride than the Raven II. I've ridden both extensively and the Raven II has a much nicer ride/feel. The '04 Jekyll will ride much nicer, but that will be mostly due to the new shock used. If your going to buy new, wait till then!

As far as I know, Cannondale is replacing all of the Raven Frames with new Jekyll framesets. This includes the shock, as well. Contact your LBS or 1-800-bikeusa. They may be dointng this on a case by case basis, but check your frames closely for any air bubbles under the clearcoat, or any signs of delamination. I hape that I helped out. Dont go replacing your Raven framesets when Cannondale will do it for you. This type of service is part of the reason we all ride Cannondale Bicycles. Later.

Thanks for the heads up everyone. My Raven is at my LBS now. It sounds most likely Cannondale is going to replace it with a Jekyll frameset along with the Lefty shock. At this point I won't complain. Cannondale is a very good company. Thanks again everyone.
