| Lefty Rack | adambc Jun 18, 2003 5:07 PM | | I have just purchased a Scapel 1000 with the lefty fork. I have a small truck and was wondering if anyone knew of a fork mount that is compatible with the lefty I could mount in my truck bed. Taking the front tire off this bike is a pain but I'm afraid this is what I'm going to have to do unless I just put in the bed like a motorcycle and strap it down that way. Any ideas????

| Here you go... | RaveOn Jun 18, 2003 6:35 PM | | Here is one company that makes an adapter:

Here is an eBay auction with same (used) item:

$50 new is kinda steep but maybe you can find a e-tailer with a cheaper price. |
| what about a receiver hitch mount... | jcw Jun 19, 2003 5:00 AM | | I use the Sportworks Transport and it works great. Best rack on the market IMO. I also am riding the Scalpel 1000 - congrats on the purchase, you're going to love it! |
| re: Lefty Rack | adambc Jun 19, 2003 1:18 PM | | Thanks for the replies the problem with the sportswork is I have one and love it too. But those fat tires (2.0) don't fit, plus I really didn't want to have the rack hanging behind my truck. I can't wait to just ride my bike (can't because of rain) but I'm about ready to trade it for an Ark as much as it has stormed (3 plus inches of rain in the past week). Do you happen to know if continuously removing the front tire will mess up the hub?
Thank again

| re: 1-Up tray.. | itsdoable Jun 19, 2003 3:27 PM | | 1-Up Bicycle Components makes a tray rack that only holds the front wheel by the tire, and the tray is available on its own (~$90).

Since the tray comes apart, you could bolt the front wheel holder in the corner of the truck bed, and simply clamp your Scalpel's front wheel there, and bungee the back wheel down. |
| re: Lefty Rack | Jeff Hurricane Jun 19, 2003 4:42 PM | | The Hurricane Components Lefty Fork Up is the best way to transport the Lefty equipped bike because:
1) it's alot cheaper that any other type of upright adaptor
2) it is way more secure than any other system ie; Sportsworks, Yakima Anklebitter.
3) unlike any other of those rack systems, the Fork Up is transversible, meaning you can use it on anyone's rack from any manufacturerer that use a fork mounted type system. Those other rack companies racks can't do or claim that. This is a big thing, meaning you dont have to drive all the time because your the only one in your riding group that has a rack that just fits your bike.
We sold Hurricane back in September and I think that the Lefty Fork Up may be backordered. If you can't find one, let me know (email:hurrcomp@gte.net) I'll see what I can do to get you one.
Jeff
P.S. I have two Lefty equipped bikes, a Scalpel Team with a Carbon Lefty and a Jekyl with a Lefty Max. Taking the wheel on and off will not harm the hub or fork |
