I'll be in Corvallis, OR on business early next week and would like to check out the local trails. Any locals out there have some suggestions? Is it worth dragging the bike along with me?

Thanks!

You could check out the Oakridge Summer Ride Fest....OldSchool
Jul 16, 2003 12:09 PM
if you come the weekend before. This are isn't too far from Corvallis, and you'll be riding some of the best trails in Oregon. Oakridge is near where the Cascade Cream Puff 100 mile race is held.

Page shiggy for further info. I've also attached a description.

Another option is MacDonold's Forest. I've never riden there, but hear it's a great ride.

We are only 1 week away from The Summer Ride Fest, happening on July 18-20th
2003.

Sponsored by Paul's Bicycle Way Of Life, The Disciples Of Dirt mountain bike
club, Web Cyclery.com, Dirt Rag and Clif Bar.

Pre-registration is now closed, if you haven't put your registration in the
mail by today (7/10) please wait and bring it to the Trail Head Coffee House
Friday night or Saturday morning.

Don't forget we have expanded the event to include a ride on Friday that can
be done by an intermediate rider with an option to go big if you want. It
will include one or both of the Larison trail loops for either a 21 or 36
mile ride. The ride will leave Green Waters park just East of Oakridge about
1 mile at 11:00am. You must sign a release before the start of the ride.

The trails are in great shape right now and only getting better.

I plan on having the burrito's from Rosalina's there about 6:00pm, you can
get food in Oakridge at the Trailhead Coffee House before that. I also have
a few raffle items thanks to Dirt Rag, Web Cyclery and Paul's Bike Shop to
hand out Saturday night so plan on being at the outpost around 7:00 if your
not camping there. Don't forget camping is included at the McGillicudy's
outpost in your entry fee. Paul's Bike shop will be there helping out with
mechanicals, they will also have some basic things like tubes, tires,
chains, wheels, etc... just in case.

For event registration and packet pick-up, maps and name tags, you need to
come to The Trailhead Coffee house Friday night between 6:00pm and 9:00pm.
They will have a couple good choices for dinner and Wild Duck Brew on tap.
We will be there again for breakfast and to catch the late comers for
registration at 6:00am to 8:30am. The cut-off for the Westfir Ultra ride
registration is 7:00am Saturday morning or 50 riders which ever comes first.

Thanks to Clif Bar we will have Clif Bars and Shots available to all riders
about 1/3-1/2 way through the rides depending on which ride you do. There
will also be Banana's, muffins and water.

Directions to Trailhead Coffee house: About 45 minutes from I-5 up Hwy58,
take 58 into Oakridge, across the street from Best Western you will see the
Trailhead Coffee House.

Directions to McGillicudy's: About 45 minutes from I-5 up Hwy58, take 58
towards Oakridge, approx 30-32 miles you will come to the ranger station on
the south, just past that turn onto LaDuke Road. Take Laduke Road for 2
miles to McGillicudy's Outpost on the right, if you hit the gravel road you
just missed it.

Directions to Westfir and the Red Covered Bridge: About 45 minutes from I-5
up Hwy58, take 58 towards Oakridge, approx 30-32 miles you will come to the
ranger station. Just before that about 100 feet is the turn into Westfir on
the left. Take this turn, follow road across river and giant green steel
bridge and turn left. Follow road into Westfir, and park in parking lot
across street from Red Covered Bridge.

I was hoping to get a jam session going so bring a guitar, harmonica,
trumpet, etc... and let's get the is party rolling.

Time To Ride,
Richard

If you can't get in for Ridefest - check out Cyclotopia Bike Shop in Corvallis. There is a Tuesday night ride up to Mac Forest. It is a briskly-paced ride of about 20-30 miles with some steeps along the way. I think it leaves at 5PM or 6PM - give them a call - they'll hook you up with details.
